5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Music, April 6, 2008
This review is from: 7 (Audio CD)
This is a wonderful album. Even after 20 years, Poi Dog Pondering is still making music that is as vibrant and relevant as anything they've done. The range of music here is amazing, and it all works. The opening lyrics of the first track, "Perfect Music," nicely presage what awaits on this CD: "Perfect music, lying by me in my bed. Perfect music, talking to me in my head." "Palm Leaf Effigy" is a soft, beautiful, hauntingly personal song. The bouncy pop feel of "Lemon Drop Man" belies the poignant lyrics. "Candy" and "Super Tarana," tucked near the end of the CD, provide the requisite rockin' 1-2 punch. Perfect music, indeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, April 4, 2008
This review is from: 7 (Audio CD)
This is a fantastic cd from a great band. There is not a bad song on the disc. My favorite songs are probably Lemon Drop Man, Rusted Weather, Outta Yer Head and Space Dust. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who is a new or old fan of Poi Dog (or to anyone who just likes great music). Definitely their best cd since Pomegranite. Also, be sure to see them live. They are one of the best live bands around.

I have been following Poi from as far back as their Volo Volo days...and though they have never made a bad album, there are ones that speak to the soul directly, and this more than any others. music, lyrics, and production as genuine as the thoughts they convey. I feel more apart of their music now than I ever was. Thanks for taking me along...

Wow. I've been a Poi Dog fan since college way back in '88. There will always be a special place in my heart for some of their earlier albums, but this may well be their best album. Its certainly their most mature. Hearing the bands sound evolve over the years has been a pleasure and this album sounds and feels like the culmination of everything that's come before. All too often bands either disappear or their music ossifies into more of the same for album after album. It's wonderful to have Poi still around with a sound that is still evolving. If you'd told me back in '88 that Poi will keep getting better I wouldn't have believed you. This album would make me happy to have been wrong though. It's an amazing mix of everything that made them great back then and everything that makes them great now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Poi is happiness, April 28, 2008

If you ever had the joy of seeing Poi Dog Pondering live you know what I mean by Poi is happiness. I remember the lights went on at 4:45 AM after 3 1/2 hours of music and everyone at the 40 Watt in Athens was smiling and happy. And that is the same reaction a Poi studio album produces. I drive in horrible Atlanta rush hour traffic and - smile.

7 is more guitar heavy and less clubby than In Fruit Comes Seed, but the resulting happiness this music provides stays the same.

Poi Dog Pondering has always done that, from the earliest album on and they continue the tradition of making great music and spreading love and happiness to anyone willing to listen.

All I can recommend is to allow them to brighten your day as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top 10 of 2008, April 9, 2008

The band's shinning moment.....and their have been many, is this new CD by Poi Dog Pondering. I feel as though the band have finally perfected what their vision has been all along. Frank is a true genious, and should be held upon high with the other songwriting greats of this century. Emotion, Power, and that trademark creative genious of merging so many styles into 1 distinct sound, the Poi Dog Pondering Sound. If you haven't bought this CD yet, consider yourself far, far behind.

5.0 out of 5 stars 7th Heaven, April 6, 2008

This disc was definitely worth the wait! Frank Orrall and company have come up with a fantastic collection that is more in touch with earlier Poi music such as on Volo Volo and Pomegranate than their last two releases. Horns, strings, electric guitar, and lots of vocals. Not one song here is a dud--all have great lyrics and many are infectious. I'll catch myself quietly singing or humming "Perfect Music" and "Candy" while doing everyday chores. "Lemon Drop Man" is a hard-rocking song dealing with the tragedy of drugs. "Baby Together" is a fun, unsubtle love song. The last song, "Space Dust," is my favorite and gently fades out to a fitting climax to the disc.
