When the first 7 Wonders game came out on DS about 3 years ago, I played it enthusiastically every single day until I finished it, and went back through it again recently while waiting for the unusually long delay on 7 Wonders 2. Now that I have this new 2nd version, I'm in love all over again. The first one hurt my eyes so bad because of the tiny symbols, and this new version is MUCH better on the eyes - it's got large runes to swap that are very easy to see shape and color differences on, even when playing on the smaller, older DS systems. The developers made this version to be easier to see on purpose, too, which is the biggest reason why I wanted it so bad. And they nailed it because I can play this for hours with no eye strain, especially on my regular DSi.
The story mode is always most fun for me, because I like the feeling of accomplishment as I build the wonders and acquire different things along the way. It has 3 power-ups that come naturally as a result of certain moves in the game: Ice Ball (earned by matching 4 runes at once, and this ball removes all runes in a horizontal line). Fire Ball (earned by matching 5 runes at once, and this ball removes all runes horizontally and diagonally). And the Dice Bonus (earned each time 4 power ups - Ice and/or Fire Balls - are used. This Dice Bonus removes 15-20 random runes from the playing field when used). Also as you go through the game, you unlock 12 different bonus items to use in-game, which can really make things fun when you need a little help! They include: X Power, Score Multiplier, Clock Stopper, Single Cell Bomb, Teleport, Chameleon, The Destroyer, The Equalizer, The Transformer, The Accelerator, Cluster Bomb, and Phantom Bonus. You can use the bonus of your choice in each game level, provided you have unlocked it (which is done by completing levels in story mode). There is also a bonus level you can unlock periodically by clearing runes over a special square. This unlocks pieces of a map that when complete will take you to the bonus level that is a puzzle variant of this regular 7 wonders game. It requires you complete certain goals with a limited number of moves. Fortunately if that's not your thing, you can simply press the Skip button and go back to your game! :) 7 Wonders 2 is as good as it gets in a match 3 game. It's easy to learn, outrageously addictive, a perfect balance of fun and challenge (and never gets frustratingly hard). It's got beautiful graphics, vibrant colors, and the wonders you build are fun to see coming together as you go along - and they always look great. The bonuses and power-ups in this game make it a lot more fun than the original, not to mention the fact I previously mentioned that it's so much easier to see. I definitely feel this version of 7 Wonders was very much worth the wait. It's greatly improved over the first one which is still fun but I will always go back to this new one instead. It delivers in every way a match 3 game possibly could. I absolutely recommend it, especially for those of you who have vision impairment as I do. You'll love it! :)

After waiting so long for this game, I was very disappointed. It was not at all challenging and I was finished after a couple of hours. It did not even make subsequent games any harder. Save your money.

I was really looking forward to this game release, but either I am getting better or this game just wasnt as challenging as the first. I sped right through it and I did not find it to be very hard. I would recommend this for someone who is new to these types of games....or someone younger. I actually liked 7 wonders (1) better.
Disappointing.

I was looking forward to this game since I enjoyed the original so much but I was disappointed in the overall game. They made it so easy with different powerups and other bonuses that I was able to play the entire game in less than a month when it had taken me a couple of years to get through the first game. Everytime I got near level 8 I would run out of lives, I whizzed through II without any problem. Never lost a game and only used a couple of lives to complete the whole game. I'd rather play the original over and over than try this one again.

This game was very disappointing. The original 7 Wonders game was addictive and challenging. I would sometimes have to do a level ten or more times before I could finish it. This game however, is not challenging which to me means not nearly as enjoyable. It is just match 3, match 3, match 3........ it took me less than one day to finish the game, while still working full time and caring for my family. Not recommended unless you are a huge fan of mind numbing, repetitive tasks.

Game is fun to play. But does not do much more than become a time pacifier. More stratagy into the game would have been nice. For the catagory of game that it is, I would rate it at best; average.

After waiting with anticipation for the release of this game, I thought it would be really great considering all the delays in the release date. I must say I was disappointed......although it was fun, it wasn't nearly as good as the first 7 Wonders.

My husband and I love 7 Wonders, but were slightly disappointed with II. It looks like they went backwards with the graphics. They added a couple of new features, which are ok. We may keep it, but overall disappointed.

I liked this game but once you get to the end you can't play it again. The hidden puzzle were sometimes too hard so I gave up instead of doing it over and over. I enjoyed the game but unlike Cradle of Rome I can't play it over and over.

I loved 7 Wonders of the Ancient World. I played it through all 3 times and had a blast. All told about 30 hours (I play leisurely). I was expecting a lot from this second effort - particularly since we had to wait so long. I almost asked my ex to pick this up when he was in the UK and Germany for me - but I held off since it is more Euro's then the price here.
I got this for under 13 smackeroo's and that's about the right price. This game will be completely beat at a very slow pace (I'm not rolling through it pushing) in less than 3 hours. That is just too short. This game could have had a second playthrough included with a little effort and this would have brought my rating up. What there is in here is fun - but much much easier than the 1st game. So far I have one area to go and I haven't lost even 1 life. Now where's the fun in that? So, although it pains me greatly, I must tell all you match three addicts to pick up either the first one in this series or either of these which will provide you with a great deal more gameplay and value for your dollar: Cradle of Rome and Jewel Master: Egypt. I have played both of them through 3 times each and had a blast each time. The challenge level is higher, gameplay is considerably longer with 100 levels, and they have a better interface and graphics. At a cost of around ten bucks or so this isn't a bad pick up (why it gets 3 stars) but really don't pay above that. |
