4.0 out of 5 stars Solid album that is underrated and overlooked, July 12, 2000
This review is from: #7 (Audio CD)
Since George only released two singles from this album, it was not a big seller, which for George translates to "only" being platinum. Those two singles, however, are classic Strait. Nobody in His Right Mind and It Ain't Cool have George in full-fledged crooner mode, belting out a smoothly textured rendition of the two ballads. Nice lyrics on Cool with "suave and debonair".

It is a shame that other songs on the album did not get much exposure. However, I'm Never Gonna has gotten work as a nice dancehall waltz. People looking for dirt can also hear the notorious potty-mouth and bad-boy Strait utter the word "breast". Parental guidance is suggested (smirk).

Strait once again pays homage to one of his influences with a dead on cover of Bob Wills' Deep Water. Stranger Things Have Happened shows great wit, and how clever a song writer can be at altering the meaning of a common phrase. Why'd You Go And Break and My Old Flame continue his impeccable track record with traditional country honky tonk sound.

Misses include Rhythm Of The Road, which is a little too frenetic and all over the map, and You Still Get, which is a love song that is too low-key and without a lot of impact.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of his best, April 30, 1999

This is a favorite of mine. My daughter had an outdoor wedding two years ago and George Strait music was played for all the dance music. This album was a particular favorite with "I'm Never Gonna Let You Go" being played for the bride and groom's first dance. Thus the album will always hold a special place in my heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like country you will like tis one, May 13, 2000

What can you say about Strait? I know he consistently puts out great country music! #7 is no exception. It's a shame CD's like this one don't sell more than just a few million. "Nobody in his right mind would've left her" and "It aint cool to be crazy about you" alone are worthy enough to by this CD. Other songs like "I'm never gonna let you go", "Stranger things have happened", and "Cowtown" are some of my favorites. When you first hear some of the tracks your like "there okay". But after a few times they grow on you quick. Its now one of my favorites! I listen to the whole CD 3 or 4 times a week. Every song is catchy and fun to sing along with. If you love to country dance you'll love "I'm never gonna let you go", its my favorite song to waltz too! Buying this CD will not be disappointment!

Critics might say that too many albums means ordinary music. With George Strait the opposite is true. 7 is a terrific portfolio of Strait greats! Give it a shot, especially if you've just discovered George through some of his more recent releases.

5.0 out of 5 stars INCREDIBLE STRAIT, January 1, 2005
This review is from: #7 (Audio CD)
I cannot stress how much I love this CD, it is without question the most underrated of GS's career. It is in the top FIVE studio albums he ever made. "Cowtown", "No One In Their Right Mind Would Have Left Her", My Old Flame's Burnin' Another Honky Tonk Down" "Deep Water", "Rhythm Of The Road", and most of all "It Ain't Cool To Be Crazy About You", are 10/10. There is not one song that is LESS then 9/10. This is one incredible Strait CD, and a bargain at any price.

5.0 out of 5 stars it's in the album cuts, January 7, 2004

The difference between a good album and a great album is the cuts you don't hear on the radio. The truely great artists are the ones that make people fall in love with a song that you aren't forced into because of radio play. People like Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Clint Black (his early work at least) and most notably George Strait are ones that do it. #7 is a shining example of this. It's not a great album because of marketing or hype, but because it's just a fine example of the things we hear so often are lacking in much of modern country music (but's thats an unfair comparison to be taken on another day). The point is that when you hear "never gonna let you go" you're going to get lost in the richness of the album and realize that there's more to music than what you hear on the airwaves. It's an amazing artist at the peak of his game doing what he does best. How could it not be worth the money?

I am a huge fan of George Strait. My goal is to have every one of his releases , and I am probably four away. I dont just buy the and put them away, as I do love his voice. When I get a new cd, I play it over and over again, as it never fails that I find new favorites on each and every cd.
This purchase has been no exception, and I have to say that I go with my gut on the seller, and their descriptions of the product. This particular one was absolutely wonderful. All that I was told was very true, all the detailed information is so appreciated, seller was great to work with, product arrived early, and was so much more than I expected. the first week, probably listened to this fifty times, and have truly enjoyed it.
I can honestly say it is a wonderful product, and to deal with the seller was a great experience. I hope that everyone has the opportunity to experience the truly great transactions like I have had here, and in the end, own a great product! Thanks...Debbie
