CMIT,
By Carlos Bott (APO, AE United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 70-210: MCSE Guide to Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (Hardcover)
I teach in the CMIT (Academic MSCE) program for the University of Maryland, and this particular book is not of the same quality as the NT4 Series (ExamPrep). I gave up assigning the end-of-chapter questions as in-class quizzes as many of the answers (provided on the instructor CD) were vague and/ or confusing. I had to fall back often on the offical MS Press text or technet for complete answers.

Do NOT Buy This Book,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 70-210: MCSE Guide to Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (Hardcover)
Is the book itself written well? Well, yes. Why then do I give this a "do not buy"? The reason is simple. Those of us who are professionals and are trying to gather study material to get us through the new hurdle that Microsoft has thrown at us, namely getting recertified before our NT 4.0 certification runs out, need what I will call a complete study guide....you know, one with the answers provided. When I wrote to the publisher, asking why the answers were not provided, I was told that it was being used as a text book in schools. Thank you very much, and I wish you (publisher) all the luck in the world with the kiddies in school, but for me, this book is useless. If you are a professional and not a kid in school, save your money. Do NOT buy this book! Amazon has plenty of great books that you can purchase, but this is not one of them.

Great Text for Windows 2000 Professional,
By Ron Carswell (San Antonio, Tx USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 70-210: MCSE Guide to Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (Hardcover)
I used this text and the MCSE Guide to Microsoft Windows 2000 Server for the Install 2000 Professional/Server course this summer at a local community college. The text is well written and strives to match Microsoft's MCSE Exam for Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional. The extensive hands-on projects provided practice skills for my students. As an instructor, I appreciated the extensive course materials (chapter outlines, PowerPoint presentations, test generators). I would recommend that prospective test takers purchase a practice test. Perhaps the TestOut LabSim (Windows 2000 Professional Lab Simulator) and practice test.

Testbook used in my MCSE class,
This review is from: 70-210: MCSE Guide to Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (Hardcover)
This book is very well written with easy to follow hands on exercises that introduce you to the new Windows 2000 Professional components. It assumes some basic knowledge of course, but you shouldn't be going for your MCSE unless you have that experience anyways. Included CD is great for practice tests, and the text has very few misprints. Those that I have found are contradicted along the way (with the correct info) so you are able to pick them out. Great Tips that prevent you from falling into common traps.

MCP Prep, NOT!,
By Chris Curfman (Dubuque, IA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 70-210: MCSE Guide to Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (Hardcover)
From a glance, this book seems to provide exceptional contentand material for a solid classroom presentation. However, there are just too many technical errors, and 'just-plain- wrongs' throughout (start with the review question answers being omitted from the text, the instructor answer keys filled with errors). Also, so much ambiguity and vagueness, that the reader is left answerless and confused about correct methods /procedures for a Windows 2000 Pro implementation. Not what you need to pass exam 70-210.

Terrible!,
By Dan Cinelli (RAF Mildenhall, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 70-210: MCSE Guide to Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (Hardcover)
After completing the course at UMUC/Mildenhall, I can say that we (the class) were fortunate enough to have an instructor that did a lot of cross referencing with other text books to clear up a lot of confusing items. The author/publisher didn't even stop to think about including the answers to the review questions in case someone wanted use it for home/self study. If you look at all of the ratings, you'll see that the bad ratings out score the good ratings 9-2. I'm glad I wasn't in the classes that rated this book with 5 stars. There are MUCH better books for your money. Please take note UMUC, Mildenhall.

Waste time and waste money,
By S.Y Lai (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 70-210: MCSE Guide to Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (Hardcover)
This is a terrible and boring textbook. I was enforced to buy this book because of my lecture. This book is expensive when compare many MCSE books on the market, and this book unorganized and boring book content. At the end of each chapter, the review questions are too simple and easy for MCSE, and the questions are not enough for preparing MCSE examination. This book should not put "USE TO PREPARE FOR MCSE". The content of each chapter is not very organized. There are not enough hand on exercise in hand-on project of each chapter. Not practical book for MCSE. Celine

What a waste!,

This review is from: 70-210: MCSE Guide to Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (Hardcover)
I got this book, because I had to study it for my MCSE class at school. I think it was a waste of money and time. The book raises so many questions that it doesnt have the answer for.It says something in one page and denys it in another page,It is so Controversial. Things are unclear and it will confuse you.If you are serious about getting your certification stay away from this book.

This Book is Horrible,
By Gary (Vancouver, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 70-210: MCSE Guide to Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (Hardcover)
Too bad there is no zero ratings cause this book would defintatly receive it. The two people that gave this book a good rating must have been paid off by the two authors. Or it could be Ed Tittel and James M Stewart rating it five stars. I dont even want to give any more thought about this book cause it's wasting my time writing this.

There are far better resources,
By A Customer
This review is from: 70-210: MCSE Guide to Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional (Hardcover)
I too, was recently forced to use this book for a University of Maryland course, and am still at a loss as to why it was ever selected as a university text. Everything from the section headings to the review questions are poorly organized and apparently not edited. Questions are often vaguely worded and there is no answer key against which to check your progress. The writing style changes throughout the text leading me to believe that this was a group effort without enough supervision. If you are a UM student, you don't have a choice but to use this text. However, if you want a real MSCE study guide, there is an ocean of better choices out there. Go fish!
