Hands-On Exercises, July 22, 2004
This review is from: 70-215: MCSE Guide to Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Certification Edition (Paperback)
I am studying to become an MCSE. This was the textbook for a class that I was enrolled in during the Winter Quarter of 2004. I passed the exam((#70-215) for Windows 2000 Server.
This is a very good textbook. The hands-on exercises at the end of the chapters were very helpful. Each chapter covered an aspect of networking with Windows 2000 Server, Advanced Server, and Datacenter. It is a very gentle introduction to this particular server OS.
I give credit to the classroom lectures and presentations for helping me pass the exam. However, the exercises in this textbook were definitely beneficial because they gave me some actual hands-on experience with the subject matter.
Please keep in mind that the book does not have an evaluation copy of Windows 2000 Server. You will need access to a computer that is running Windows 2000 Server. I was fortunate enough to have access to a well-equipped classroom computer laboratory. If you do not have access to an actual server, you can still order an evaluation copy of Windows 2000 Server from Microsoft. The evaluation copy is valid for a period of 120 days. Microsoft will only charge you for shipping. The OS disk is free. My advice is to go ahead and order the Advanced Server version of Windows 2000.
