Product Description

Most bed pillows don't support the head and the neck. The Original McKenzie® Cervical Roll provides necessary support to the cervical structures and maintains a natural curve of the cervical spine while one sleeps on the side or back. If you suffer from frequent episodes of neck pain; referred pain in the shoulders; nighttime neck problems; or morning pain or stiffness in the neck, your sleeping position may be at fault. Placed between a pillow and the pillowcase, the cervical roll is designed to work with most conventional pillows. It is affordable and portable, and it is not hot and uncomfortable or snug around the neck like a cervical night collar. Made of low density foam with a removable and washable cotton/polyester cover. Size is 3 1/2" in diameter x 20" long. The roll must be used with a very soft pillow (ie; feathers. According to Dr. McKenzie molded rubber or foam pillows should never be used if you have neck problems. This item cannot be returned if the plastic seal is broken. 5.0 out of 5 stars Better Than Any Substitute, December 26, 2007

This review is from: 703 - Original McKenzie Cervical Roll (Misc.)
As a trial and at the advice of my physical therapist, I used a rolled-up towel inside my pillow case as a temporary cervical neckroll. While this definitely helped, the towel would compress, as you would expect, and in the course of a night's sleep, the support benefit would be lost. The McKenzie Cervical Roll restores its shape beautifully, and provides excellent--yet comfortable--neck support for both back and side sleepers. I haven't done it yet, but I think it would also be very convenient to take along during extended travel, so as not to regress when away from home. If you are unsure if this will help your neck pain, try a rolled towel for a week--and then buy this roll to aid in a long term solution. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly, it does the job, May 2, 2008
This review is from: 703 - Original McKenzie Cervical Roll (Misc.)
I used to use a tempurpedic memory foam pillow. It worked for a while to ease morning neck stiffness, but after a while, it didn't retain enough support to properly position my neck. At first, when i bought this, I thought it would have the same softness/degradation issues as the tempurpedic, but it doesn't! It's soft and unobstructive enough to feel like a soft bump in the pillow but I'm surprised that its firm enough to properly support my neck. I have not had any neck stiffness since I started using this roll in my pillow. And that goes for sleeping on both my back and side. I would recommend that you get this if you are a calm sleeper (i.e., don't move around a lot at night). Otherwise, the roll could shift around and actually be out of place relative to your neck, which could make things worse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product!, May 12, 2007
I'd struggled with trying to find the "right" pillow for a long time and lost plenty of sleep with neck pain; finally when the daily pain got really bad, my neurosurgeon prescribed Physical Therapy before resorting to surgery. The therapist recommended a cervical roll--when I went on line to look for one, the McKenzie sort of popped out at me. After comparing, I chose the McKenzie; by combining it and daily exercises, I sleep well and wouldn't dream (pardon the pun) of going to bed or even lying down for a rest without it.
