Product Description

Amazon.com Review

The two precision-ground, cast-iron wings set this saw apart from average contractor-style saws with steel wings. Heavy-duty cast-iron trunnions support the sealed ball-bearings' blade arbor housing for a smooth performance with minimal vibration. JET also uses totally enclosed fan-cooled motors, preventing overheating and dust infiltration and resulting in longer motor life and less risk of a fire hazard than with open motor housing. The stand for this saw is made of a tougher-gauge metal and has a 4-inch dust port for easy connection to a dust collector. Another user-friendly feature is the quick-connect electrical plug right at the saw, meaning you don't have to search out the wall socket prior to every blade change. JET has also located the on/off switch at the top left for easy access when a quick shutdown is required. A change in the hole pattern on the fence rails means lefties can now shift the set to their preferences. The fit, finish, and use of a more durable powder coating instead of paint will make a proud owner of every user--from the beginner who wants to learn with confidence to the seasoned pro who doesn't have space for a full-size cabinet saw. --Nancy Gleason

From the Manufacturer

The heavy-duty trunnions support a cast-iron blade arbor housing along with a precision-ground cast-iron table, two additional 27-by-10-inch solid cast-iron wings, and a T-style miter slot. The miter gauge includes an extra-long bar for larger crosscutting capacity. An extruded-aluminum front guide rail allows a 30-inch rip to the right and 12-inch rip to the left capacity. Completely prewired, this saw includes a unique quick-connect, motor-to-switch plug for easy setup. The 1-1/2 hp, totally enclosed, fan-cooled motor includes overload protection and is UL listed. Other features include a quick-release, precision-style, T-square-type rip fence; a dust hood with a 4-inch outlet for easy hookup to your collection system; and a forged, one-piece, precision-ground arbor that allows minimal blade runout. Convenient rail-mounted on/off switch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Saw. Here's how to make it even better, May 28, 2002

This review is from: JET 708300K JWTS-10CW2-JF 10-Inch Right Tilt 1-1/2 Horsepower Contractor Saw with 30-Inch JETfence and 2 Cast Iron Wings, 115/230-Volt 1 Phase (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have the older version of this same saw with the stamped metal wings and in the old blue-grey color paint job. But these comments are still valid for this saw.

This is a great saw for home use, for a hobbiest, and even for a low production professional. If you were a pro cabinet builder and you run your saw all day long then you would want one of those enclosed base table saws with more horse power. But I have yet to do anything with my saw that requires more horse power than it can put out.

I've replaced the existing drive belt with about 5 feet of link belt. If a solid drive belt sits in the same position for a long time (like if you don't use your saw for a few weeks or months) then the drive belt will develop a kink where it goes around the drive pullies. When you start the saw back up you'll get a lot of vibration. If you will have periods of non-use then a link belt would be a good investment.

I also had an electrician follow the instructions in the user's manual for changing the saw from 110 to 200 volts. It draws half as many amps and (i'm told) that moter will last longer.

Get yourself a really good blade. You can get a Forrest Woodworker II blade right here on Amazon and you'll be glad you did. You'll be amazed at the difference a high quality blade will make.

Before you run the saw follow the setup instructions to make sure the blade is aligned to the miter slots. I checked mine with a dial indicator accurate to 0.0005" and my saw was perfect right out of the box.

Also follow the instructions to make sure the fence is parallel to the blade. I used shims cut from a soda can to adjust the fence slightly. Then shim the fence to make the face absolutly 90 deg to the table. By the way, the fence on this saw is wonderful. It's very accurate and repeatable. It's easy to adjust and it locks down solid. I've never had it move during a cut.

USE THE BLADE GUARD AND SPLITTER! Although most people seem to take the stock blade guard off, you will be vastly safer if you leave it on. The stock blade guard that comes with the saw has a splitter with built in anti-kickback pawls and it's easy to remove if you need to make dado cuts. Leave the guard in place.

Level the saw on it's frame, read the safety instructions one more time and start her up. My saw can pass the "nickle test" where you balance a nickle on it's edge on one of the saw's table wings, start the saw up and if the saw runs smoothly enough the nickle won't even fall over when the motor starts.

Now, get yourself some push sticks, eye protection, and hearing protection and use them EVERY TIME. The quality of this saw is such that it will last you a lifetime. Stay safe and enjoy it and you'll pass it down to your grandkids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great saw for the money, May 7, 2001

I had my heart set on a PowerMatic. My wife had her's on a deck. Compramise.

I couldn't be happier. I have had this 3 months and have beat on it. No problems. Fit and finish were excellent, runout on the arbor was WELL within Jet's strict tolerances, and no extra wiring. For a weekend woodworker, this is a great deal. The only complaints might be on the Jet Fence, but I never unboxed it. Went with the Incra TS III and have never looked back.

The instructions for assembly were clear and consice although the photo's were a little dark. I'm splitting hairs. All parts were there and in their respective bags. As a plus, it's quiet compared to other saws. Passed the nickel test just fine (stand a nickel on the table while the saw is running). Little to no vibration. Can't complain about the quality of the belt and pulleys either- very nice.

Overall, if your looking at other more expensive units (Delta, Grizzly, PM), I (along w/ several other WW mags) would go with the Jet. Happy sawing!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great saw for the money., January 1, 2002
This review is from: JET 708300K JWTS-10CW2-JF 10-Inch Right Tilt 1-1/2 Horsepower Contractor Saw with 30-Inch JETfence and 2 Cast Iron Wings, 115/230-Volt 1 Phase (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this saw a little over a year ago. Everything was set perfectly from the factory. Fair warning though, it does take some time to put together!

I've used to to cut oak, cherry, pine, hickory, etc. Heck, I've even ripped 3" thick oak table legs with the blade that came with the saw and it never broke a sweat. With a little tweaking, the Jetfence actually works well too.

I gave it four stars for a couple of reasons. 1. I had to get Jet to send a new fence because the one that came with it was curved like a banana. To their credit, they sent one no questions asked. (Their service is EXCELLENT.) 2. The blade guard and splitter assembly is awkward and has to be removed to change the blade. I would prefer to use it for safety reasons, but it's just too much of a pain in the neck. Come on guys, redesign the thing! 3. I had to grind and file a notch in the plastic tab that marks the fence position to get it to read correctly. A small issue, but it would be easy for Jet to correct this without me having to get out the grinder. 4. The stock miter gauge has some minor play in it. It's not too bad, and I corrected it with a punch and hammer. Still, it wouldn't cost Jet much more to include a bar that is adjustable.

Don't let my picky little points fool you. The fact is, I had to search to find even small things wrong with this saw! This is one solid no-frills machine that performs well. It has done everything I have asked it to do without fail. I would definitely buy it again.
