3.0 out of 5 stars Good saw, but you won't like the fence
I've had the Jet for about a year. It's basically a good saw--plenty of power for most operations, and the blade has stayed in alignment. However, you'll find that fence (specifically, the JETFence) is inadequate--it's easy to knock out of alignment when you're running large panels. If you buy this one, you'll be looking for a replacement fence (at a cost of $200 - $400)...

This review is from: JET 708300K JWTS-10CW2-JF 10-Inch Right Tilt 1-1/2 Horsepower Contractor Saw with 30-Inch JETfence and 2 Cast Iron Wings, 115/230-Volt 1 Phase (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have the older version of this same saw with the stamped metal wings and in the old blue-grey color paint job. But these comments are still valid for this saw.

This is a great saw for home use, for a hobbiest, and even for a low production professional. If you were a pro cabinet builder and you run your saw all day long then you would want one of those enclosed base table saws with more horse power. But I have yet to do anything with my saw that requires more horse power than it can put out.

I've replaced the existing drive belt with about 5 feet of link belt. If a solid drive belt sits in the same position for a long time (like if you don't use your saw for a few weeks or months) then the drive belt will develop a kink where it goes around the drive pullies. When you start the saw back up you'll get a lot of vibration. If you will have periods of non-use then a link belt would be a good investment.

I also had an electrician follow the instructions in the user's manual for changing the saw from 110 to 200 volts. It draws half as many amps and (i'm told) that moter will last longer.

Get yourself a really good blade. You can get a Forrest Woodworker II blade right here on Amazon and you'll be glad you did. You'll be amazed at the difference a high quality blade will make.

Before you run the saw follow the setup instructions to make sure the blade is aligned to the miter slots. I checked mine with a dial indicator accurate to 0.0005" and my saw was perfect right out of the box.

Also follow the instructions to make sure the fence is parallel to the blade. I used shims cut from a soda can to adjust the fence slightly. Then shim the fence to make the face absolutly 90 deg to the table. By the way, the fence on this saw is wonderful. It's very accurate and repeatable. It's easy to adjust and it locks down solid. I've never had it move during a cut.

USE THE BLADE GUARD AND SPLITTER! Although most people seem to take the stock blade guard off, you will be vastly safer if you leave it on. The stock blade guard that comes with the saw has a splitter with built in anti-kickback pawls and it's easy to remove if you need to make dado cuts. Leave the guard in place.

Level the saw on it's frame, read the safety instructions one more time and start her up. My saw can pass the "nickle test" where you balance a nickle on it's edge on one of the saw's table wings, start the saw up and if the saw runs smoothly enough the nickle won't even fall over when the motor starts.

Now, get yourself some push sticks, eye protection, and hearing protection and use them EVERY TIME. The quality of this saw is such that it will last you a lifetime. Stay safe and enjoy it and you'll pass it down to your grandkids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great saw for the money, May 7, 2001

This review is from: JET 708300K JWTS-10CW2-JF 10-Inch Right Tilt 1-1/2 Horsepower Contractor Saw with 30-Inch JETfence and 2 Cast Iron Wings, 115/230-Volt 1 Phase (Tools & Home Improvement)
I had my heart set on a PowerMatic. My wife had her's on a deck. Compramise.

I couldn't be happier. I have had this 3 months and have beat on it. No problems. Fit and finish were excellent, runout on the arbor was WELL within Jet's strict tolerances, and no extra wiring. For a weekend woodworker, this is a great deal. The only complaints might be on the Jet Fence, but I never unboxed it. Went with the Incra TS III and have never looked back.

The instructions for assembly were clear and consice although the photo's were a little dark. I'm splitting hairs. All parts were there and in their respective bags. As a plus, it's quiet compared to other saws. Passed the nickel test just fine (stand a nickel on the table while the saw is running). Little to no vibration. Can't complain about the quality of the belt and pulleys either- very nice.

Overall, if your looking at other more expensive units (Delta, Grizzly, PM), I (along w/ several other WW mags) would go with the Jet. Happy sawing!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great saw for the money., January 1, 2002
This review is from: JET 708300K JWTS-10CW2-JF 10-Inch Right Tilt 1-1/2 Horsepower Contractor Saw with 30-Inch JETfence and 2 Cast Iron Wings, 115/230-Volt 1 Phase (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this saw a little over a year ago. Everything was set perfectly from the factory. Fair warning though, it does take some time to put together!

I've used to to cut oak, cherry, pine, hickory, etc. Heck, I've even ripped 3" thick oak table legs with the blade that came with the saw and it never broke a sweat. With a little tweaking, the Jetfence actually works well too.

I gave it four stars for a couple of reasons. 1. I had to get Jet to send a new fence because the one that came with it was curved like a banana. To their credit, they sent one no questions asked. (Their service is EXCELLENT.) 2. The blade guard and splitter assembly is awkward and has to be removed to change the blade. I would prefer to use it for safety reasons, but it's just too much of a pain in the neck. Come on guys, redesign the thing! 3. I had to grind and file a notch in the plastic tab that marks the fence position to get it to read correctly. A small issue, but it would be easy for Jet to correct this without me having to get out the grinder. 4. The stock miter gauge has some minor play in it. It's not too bad, and I corrected it with a punch and hammer. Still, it wouldn't cost Jet much more to include a bar that is adjustable.

Don't let my picky little points fool you. The fact is, I had to search to find even small things wrong with this saw! This is one solid no-frills machine that performs well. It has done everything I have asked it to do without fail. I would definitely buy it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy with the JetFence, February 25, 2002

This review is from: JET 708300K JWTS-10CW2-JF 10-Inch Right Tilt 1-1/2 Horsepower Contractor Saw with 30-Inch JETfence and 2 Cast Iron Wings, 115/230-Volt 1 Phase (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have read many reviews that comment on how poor the JetFence is, or how they will replace it as soon as possible. Maybe I got lucky, or maybe the JetFence just isn't all that bad. But without aligning anything I was able to rip a 24" cut within .003", (that would be the thickness of a hair), end to end. For my purposes, which is making basic furniture for fun, the JetFence will be on my saw for many years. The only modification it needed was to lengthen the slot in the scale site with a file because it didn't have enough adjustment.

After receiving my saw, I put aside plenty of time for assembly. I was in no hurry. I started by opening every box and sorting all the hardware by type and size, counting each to make sure I had the required quantity. Do be careful though not to mix the very similar looking 8mm items with the 5/16" items. I was short 1, 8mm nut which I picked up at the local hardware store for $.14 (no big deal). I read the directions entirely before starting, then took my time. Everything was well explained and went together smoothly. Assembly took me about 6 hours, with breaks.

Some helpful notes, when aligning the belt, tilt the blade giving you extra room for a wider straight edge. Also, you want help attaching the cast wings, and the motor because of their weight and awkward nature.

One of my cast wings was perfect, the other was bowed .012". I decided to match it in the middle allowing each end to hang down .006. Not perfect, but I can't see that it will affect anything.

All my test cuts were right on the money, the blade didn't need adjustment, nor did the miter gage.

I did replace the 28 tooth blade with a Freud TKR806 80-Tooth, available here on Amazon. Big difference, blade cuts extremely smooth. Smooth enough to use as glue edges. And the sound difference of a stabilized blade is much quieter. I will use the 28 tooth for ripping rough cuts.

One component on this saw that I liked better than a Delta is the blade guard, which swings back out of the way. This makes narrow cuts easier and blade changes much easier.

Overall for my first table saw, this saw is everything I hoped for and more. Honestly after reading many reviews I expected the JetFence to be a fight every time I needed a straight cut, but it is quite the contrary. So after months of research I think I made the right decision. Use the money you will save upgrading to buy extra tools or clamps (I did).

PS... a nice surprise was the push stick included in the box with the saw.

4.0 out of 5 stars JET 708300K / JWTS-10CW2-JF 10", November 26, 2002

This review is from: JET 708300K JWTS-10CW2-JF 10-Inch Right Tilt 1-1/2 Horsepower Contractor Saw with 30-Inch JETfence and 2 Cast Iron Wings, 115/230-Volt 1 Phase (Tools & Home Improvement)
After spending almost 6 months researching tablesaws(looking for the best value for my money) I chose the JET 708300K / JWTS-10CW2-JF 10" Table Saw with 2 Cast Iron Wings and JETFence. Rather than restating what others have said beofre about this saw let me put it in as few words as possible. (1) the saw was packaged and shipped professionally and ahead of schedule. (2) It took less than 4 hours to assemble. (3) Almost no adjustments were required to rip/cut accurately. (4) A universal base (w/wheels) is a must. This is a heavy and very stable saw. (5)The Jetfence and the dust collection funnel are the only areas that Jet has skimped on and need improvement. Having said that the fence can be locked inplace and is very usable for all but the most demanding cuts. A "Sacrafical fence" is the first modification I made and was well worth the effort for cutting 1/4 vaneer or plywood. The dust collection process is only a minor annoyance and should not be a problem.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent buy., June 10, 2000
This review is from: JET 708300K JWTS-10CW2-JF 10-Inch Right Tilt 1-1/2 Horsepower Contractor Saw with 30-Inch JETfence and 2 Cast Iron Wings, 115/230-Volt 1 Phase (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought my saw at the Overland Park woodworking show, so I lucked out. It was already assembled. However, I took the time to check the alignment. Be careful when you attach the fence guide to the table and the cast iron extensions. The cast extensions on my saw were not perferctly square. Tightening the fence bolts put a bow in the fence guide, and made it impossible to adjust the fence correctly. I solved the problem by inserting some brass shims between the fence guide and the extensions.

Once I aligned everything, my saw cut like a dream; however, I would recommend replacing the blade with a top quality unit like the Forrest Woodworker 2. With this saw and blade, I was able to cut edge-joined planks without using my jointer. The saw cut was true and smooth enough.

It's an excellent buy for the home shop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Saw - A can't miss purchase, February 4, 2002
This review is from: JET 708300K JWTS-10CW2-JF 10-Inch Right Tilt 1-1/2 Horsepower Contractor Saw with 30-Inch JETfence and 2 Cast Iron Wings, 115/230-Volt 1 Phase (Tools & Home Improvement)
I did research for several weeks before buying this Jet table saw. I was looking at the comparable Delta and Grizzly models. I also thought about buying the $300 Delta from Lowe's. But after seeking advice from some guys on the woodworking forums, I decided this was my best bet. I am so glad that I bought this saw.
First of all, it is difficult to put together and the directions are unclear in a few places. But, I want to tell you that the drilling mentioned in the other reviews IS NOT NECESSARY! I believe these folks got confused on which bolts went into which holes. To put the back fence rail onto the table, you have to use the bolts that are tightened with an alan wrench. There is a different set of bolts that are traditional bolts that are still not used when you put it on. In the diagram, it looks like the same bolts, but it isn't. If you try to use the reg. bolts, you have to drill out the holes in the bar to allow for the socket. If you just put the alan wrench bolts onto the alan wrench and then carefully put them through the rail, it is not very difficult. So make sure you use the right bolts and assembly is tedious, but extra drilling is unecessary. Believe me, I did it.

After I got the saw together, it ran like a dream. no vibration, it is very quiet and went through Red Oak like butter. It will dim your lights when you turn it on though, so be ready for that unless you can wire it for 220.

The Jet fence is acceptable and hasn't come out of alignment yet, but it isn't as nice as some of the others I've seen. But if you're like me, it's hard to justify a couple hundred more dollars for something that is really more of a requirement for making cabinets. With the proper use, this fence is fine for the majority of woodworking projects.

I made a box stool first thing and mitered the joints. The blade cut perfect miters without any calibration.

Plus, this is a minor thing, but the saw looks great. I couldn't recommend it any higher.

If you buy this one, you'll be looking for a replacement fence (at a cost of $200 - $400) pretty quickly. Jet's XActa fence is much better, but of course will cost you more. You could also look at buying a Powermatic or the latest Dewalt--both are as good or better, both have better fences, and they don't cost that much more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jet Contractor Saw is a winner, February 12, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: JET 708300K JWTS-10CW2-JF 10-Inch Right Tilt 1-1/2 Horsepower Contractor Saw with 30-Inch JETfence and 2 Cast Iron Wings, 115/230-Volt 1 Phase (Tools & Home Improvement)
After much searching, both in local stores and on the internet, I finally decided on the Jet JWTS-10CW2-JF 10" table saw. I ordered the saw on a Saturday and it arrived the following Wednesday. I took my time to unpack and assemble. Total time about 6 hours. A helper was a definite plus.

Not a part was missing, and not a part was extra. The nuts and bolts were sealed in separate bags that corresponded to the assembly steps. The fit of the units was perfect. The manual could be a little better, with a few more illustrations, but overall, it was adequate to the task. The saw blade was parallel to the fence/mitre slot from the factory.

The saw has a very stable, well machined feel. The cast iron table and extensions fit together accurately. The Jet Fence is easy to adjust and seems very accurate. After finishing the assemble, I was amazed at the sound of the saw in operation. Much quieter than I expected. Both crosscuts and rips were smooth and effortless. The included saw blade was adequate.

The overall fit, finish and appearance of this Jet saw is professional. I could have spent more money on a table saw, but I don't think the additional cost would have been commensurate with the additional abilities. Like most, I am on a budget and was looking for the most bang for the buck. This saw met all my requirements.

If you are looking for a contractor's saw that is a cut above the saws available at Sears, Home Depot or Lowes, without breaking the bank, be sure to check out the Jet JWTS-10CS2-JF 10" contractor's saw. I know I have not been disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars JWTS-10CW2 REVIEW, November 11, 2000
By
Wayne Souders (Excelsior Springs, Mo USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: JET 708300K JWTS-10CW2-JF 10-Inch Right Tilt 1-1/2 Horsepower Contractor Saw with 30-Inch JETfence and 2 Cast Iron Wings, 115/230-Volt 1 Phase (Tools & Home Improvement)
I got tired of all of the problems I was having with my old benchtop table saw, saved my pennies and purchased a new JWTS-10 table saw. I elected to spend the extra money and get the model with the cast iron table extensions and I'm glad that I did. I had read the horror stories of bad instructions and even a few mismatched parts and was not exactly looking forward to the assembly. Boy was I surprised! Not only was assembly a breeze but I had no problem with the instructions at all. My friends all know that I'm no rocket scientist. If you purchase this saw you will need a couple of extra hands as well as a strong back. This is one heavy tool. The cast iron wings require two people to attach and turning the saw up on all fours is no easy chore.

All of the adjustments were right on the money straight from the box and did not require anything further. The overall fit and finish were excellent. If there was any complaint at all it is very minor. The rip fence is good but could be better and the small plastic adjustable cursor used for adjusting the rip fence was 1/8 of an inch too long. A few seconds on the sander took care of that minor problem. This is one smooth and quiet tool and will probably outlast me. I just hope my grandchildren enjoy woodworking.
