The Silence of Dust Collector,
By Kevin michael Cain (Anaheim, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: JET 708639 DC-1100A 1-1/2-Horsepower 1,100 CFM Vertical Bag Dust Collector, 115/230-Volt 1-Phase (Tools & Home Improvement)
I didn't know what I was missing until received the JET 1100A 1-1/2HP Dust Collector. I've been using the a wet/dry vac hooked to my planer and table saw. If done that you know about the noise. The JET 1100A has 2 intake ports and and has plenty of power. The machine took about 15 minutes to put together. When it was assembled I turned it on, there was only a quiet hum. The only thing I needed to buy was the hoses. I would recommend the JET 1100A to anyone want to buy a dust collector

I have had this dust collector for about a year now, and it probably has 600 to 800 hours of operation on it. I have it connected to 6 stationary power tools, and with a little bit of common sense as to installing and using blast gates, it has exceeded my expectations. With the TEFC motor, operating on 120 VAC, it works well, and I have had no problems drawing in sufficent air to to carry away even the troublesome debris generated from thickness planing. Even after several hours of running, the motor is hardly warm to the touch, and we all know that heat is what kills motors. I had initially planned to rewire it to 220, but it runs fine on 120, so I have not bothered. My only gripe is the 30 micron bags. If you keep the 30 micron bags, get a seperate air filter, or buy the 10 micron bags. I make a lot of jigs, and use MDF almost exclusively, and I have read that MDF dust is really bad for your lungs, and the 30 micron bags won't collect enough of the dust to keep my wife from worrying. I solved that with the Jet air filter for all the 30 micron and below material. The 1100 dust collector, in conjunction with the Jet airfilter keep my basement shop amazingly dust free.

A Great Dust Collection System,

A don't know why I waited so long to put a dust collection system into my garage shop, but I am glad I did, and the Jet DC1100 is a perfect system for me. I can't beleive how quiet it is when running, and the suction power that it generates. It pulls some of my smaller scroll saw pieces 6 inches off the work bench. The setup was easy, took about 1 hour. Directions and diagrams were very helpful. I'm not one to usually read the directions, thus the diagrams were really the most helpful. It was put into use almost immediately with my drum sander and router. Didn't take too long for the bag to fill up, and it really wasn't too bad to remove. However, I have since purchased a W1049 Dust Collection Separator, which separators the larger dust particles into a garbage can, which in turn, is very easy to empty. I find myself leaving the machine on, because it is so quiet. I have a setup with blast gates at each machine, so it is just a matter of opening and closing each blast gate as I work on various operations and projects. I really wanted a powerful machine, but did not want to special wire my garage with a 230 volt system. This DC works just fine on the 115 volt system. I have it plugged into a 20 amp circuit, with the overhead lights, and have not had one blown fuse. Of all the research I did, the Delta, Jet, Ridgid and PSI, they all had about the same features and the same price, I'm glad I purchased the Jet system

I had been using a shop-vac, 2 1/2-inch PVC pipe/hose system in my shop for 3 years, but the amount of dust I make overwhelmed it long ago. I make a musical instrument called a hammered dulcimer, and the extensive sawing, planing and sanding was covering my shop with dust and debris. After some research, I settled on the JET 1100A. I'm very glad I did.
The Amazon shipment arrived on time via UPS - maybe even a little early. The box was in good shape, and everything in it was undamaged and unmarred - perfect condition. Assembly was extremely easy and quick, and all components fit together like they were designed. No problems with strapping on the upper bag, and the lower bag popped in easily. After visiting the local Rockler store for 4-inch hose and connectors, I attached the JET 1100A to my new hose and blast gate system. Then I gave it my biggest test. Previously, with the old shop-vac system hooked up to my DeWalt 13 1/2-inch planer, half or more of the shavings would end up on the floor. I thought it was the poorly designed dust chute on the planer. However, after hooking up my new JET 1100A I was amazed and very pleased. No, I repeat, no shavings escaped the pull of the JET. Edge sander? Same result. Drum sander? Same result. The table saw is another matter. While the JET collects the majority of dust coming from the saw, some operations just cannot be made clean. However, the dust being distributed on the shop floor by the table saw has been reduced by 90-percent. I'll take that over the alternative. Combined with the PSI Woodworking 110V Long Ranger Dust Collector Switch that I bought from Amazon (I cannot tell you how pleasing and helpful it is to turn on the dust collector from anywhere in the shop), my dust collection system has been upgraded several very satisfying notches. Do I think the JET is overpriced for the job it does? No. Am I glad to get it at a discounted price, with no tax and no shipping cost? You bet! I have now bought seven major tools from Amazon over the past three years (dust collector, 13 1/2-inch planer, drum sander, edge sander, sliding compound miter saw, table saw and floor-stand drill press) and have been pleased with each one of them. No bad experiences. No damaged products. If you are looking for a great dust collector that performs extremely well after being properly attached to a good 4-inch hose system, you will do well to consider the JET 1100A. It has my strong recommendation.

I have had my 1100 for a couple of years now. Hopefully by now they have upgraded the piece of junk strap that holds the top bag on. There has GOT to be a better way! It is next to impossible to connect tightly. I find myself not using it sometimes just to keep from filling it and having to deal with the strap... Not the situation I had envisioned when I bought it. If you have a suggestion for upgrading that part of it, let me know!Collects sawdust nicely, isn't all that loud (much quieter than a shopvac!) Setup was easy enough. Not as pleased as I would like to be, but it does it's job.

I received this item about 2 weeks ago. Again Amazon delievery time was faster than promised. However, the box was a disaster, and I really expected damage on the inside - but there was none. This went together as advertised with no fit issues. But, the paint job was NOT what others have claimed on Jet tools. It has bare spots where the poweder coating was obviously never applied - these are not rub marks. This is down to the primer, not bare metal thank goodness. It has a 6" to 4" intake Y, with a plug for one side - the plug retaining strap was broken and of such cheap quality plastic it is not repairable - bring on the electrician's tape. The intake plate did fit snuggly against the impeller housing and there appear to be no leaks. The unit does run exceptionally quietly as reported by others, less than the 80 dcb I think someone else mentioned. I don't have a way to test the CFM so don't know if I'm getting anywhere near 1100 CFM, doubt it's that much, but it is acceptable, at least comparable to 850 machines I've seen. I also purchased the Jet 4" to 2 1/2" adapter. As others have reported in other areas, this is 2 1/2" OD and so is exactly the same opening size as the tools (bandsaw) with a 2 1/2" dust port. The adapter is worthless and does not fit a tool on the 2 1/2" size. I finally found a rubber sleeve at Home Depot that would go over both the adapter and tool ends and allow me to join them! Whew - someone please suggest a source for a quality adapter that is 2 1/2" ID so it will go over the tool ports!

Jet 1100A Dust collector,

I had no problems assembling the unit but when I went to convert the moter wiring from 115 volts to 230 volts which I needed for my shop, I found that the wiring diagram in the manual was wrong. After almost burning up the motor (smoke and fluid from the capacitor came out before I could hit the kill switch), I found a small diagram inside the motor wiring cover which is correct. Even then, when I started it the motor emitted a screeching sound. well, I thought the motor was kaput and envisioned a long hassle getting Jet to send me a new motor, but on a hunch I took off the end motor cover to see if there was anything scraping. I found the motor self cooling fan was loose and spinning on the shaft. The set screw was laying in the bottom of the motor cover. After correcting this the unit came up to speed and performed as expected.I logged on to the Jet website and was able to download the manual. The wiring diagram has now been corrected. One should always go by the diagram on the equipment since it is more likely to be right. I like having the dust collector but the 30 micron bag doesn't do the job. I will probably have to buy the 2 micron canister filter to have a viable collection system.

I just put this together and hooked it up to my Powermatic 8 in jointer. What a difference a good dust collection unit makes!I surfaced and jointed 8 inch planks of hard maple for about three hours and had no problems. Some of the plastic parts are not well attached, but in general, I am pleased with this unit.

I'm glad that I received all of my options on the right collection system. The Jet 1100A 1.5 HP collector is the perfect addition to my workshop. The fact that its quiet while its running and the suction that it produces is amazing. The set up was easy. It took me less than an hour. Directions and diagrams were great. It did not take me long to adapt the collection system to my table saw and planer. The particles moved quickly and with little effort. I will be setting up blast gates on all of my equipment as soon as possible using Jet accessories. The Amazon.com shipment was great, they delivered it on time and without any problems and the box was in perfect condition. I own four Jet tools and three Powermatic tools and have purchased the majority of them from Amazon.com. I have never had a bad experience with my purchases regarding overpricing, delivery and satisfaction. I am currently in the market for a new joiner and will more than likely purchase a Jet or Powermatic through Amazon.com as they have my strongest recommendation.

What a difference this machine makes in my shop. I forget that it is on until I am ready to leave and find that there is almost no clean up left to do. Quick, clean and powerful makes this dust collector a must for most any small shop. My only question is why did I wait so long to buy one?
