and the nostalgia continues...,

This review is from: 70's Greatest Rock Hits: #1 Hits Vol.9 (Audio CD)
70's Greatest Rock Hits: #1 Hits Vol.9 is a budget priced CD that has nine great rock tunes on it for us to enjoy. Although the music is great and the price is relatively low, I still think that they should have added at least one more song to make this a better value. After all--come on--they couldn't have rounded the track list out to an even ten tracks? Sigh. However, the sound quality is excellent and I like the artwork.
Captain & Tennille kick it off right with their major hit entitled "Love Will Keep Us Together." "Love Will Keep Us Together" features great singing, awesome guitar and a beat that really makes you listen! This is a strong beginning for the CD and I like this song very much. The keyboard arrangement is also very impressive. B.J. Thomas's "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" is easily a major highlight of this album; this timeless classic tune always brings back memories for me. B. J. Thomas was one talented artist--I predict that you'll enjoy this tune very much if you haven't heard it already. The Partridge Family offers up a hit with their "I Think I Love You." David Cassidy sings this out strong and the musical arrangement lacks nothing. This rock hit almost sounds light compared to some of the rock music we've heard lately but this still works very well. "Knock Three Times" by Tony Orlando and Dawn is a smooth, lighter style of rock song but I love the melody and I think you will enjoy this, too. Tony's voice is strong and full of masculine warmth which enhances his singing. Tony Orlando & Dawn come back a second time on this CD for another great hit they had entitled "He Don't Love You (Like I Love You);" this tune features Tony & Dawn singing with all their hearts and souls; and this tune always moves me whenever I hear it. Gilbert O' Sullivan's "Alone Again (Naturally)" is a tearjerker song that stuns me with its beauty; and listen also for "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)" by Rupert Holmes. Overall, this CD is chock full of excellent rock numbers from the great 1970s. It really brings back memories for me and I hope it will for you, too. I think they should have added at least one more song so I will take off one star to make this a four star review.

A decent collection of mostly one hit wonders from the 1970s,

Volume 9 in the "70's Greatest Rock Hits" collection is one of the more thematic offerings in the series, with most of the songs being about love (or the absence thereof). You do have to be wary of the sugar content on some of these songs, such as the Captain & Tennille's "Love Will Keep Us Together" and "He Don't Love You (Like I Love You)" from Tony Orlando & Dawn. But then you have one hit wonder Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Alone Again (Naturally)," which balances out all of the sweetness all by itself. There are only ten tracks on this album, but most of them are in that one hit wonder mold so if you are missing B.J. Thomas' "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head," Terry Jacks' "Seasons in the Sun," and "Escape (Pina Colada Song)" by Rupert Holmes, this is a good way of filling some holes in your music library with regards to minor hits from the Seventies because unless you are a big fan of Tony Orlando and Dawn or the Partridge Family, you are probably not going to have three or four albums actually put out by these artists.

This album along with the other volumes (1-15) provide a very nice collection of 70's Rock Hits. Used condition of CD was found to be in good condition and played with out any noticable loss of sound quality.

This CD is GREAT!!! My wife loves it too! From the first song to the last song, you'll be singing along and getting down like you did back in the seventies. *****

I was really just looking for one particular song and this CD had it. But there are other songs on here besides the one I wanted that are good. It's a great CD of some oldies that bring back some fun memories of riding my bike and listening to the radio during summer break from school!

This is a fairly short CD, at only 9 songs, but the high quality of each track is worth it. The weak spot, comparatively speaking, is "Help Is On Its Way" by the Little River Band, but even that is a good song. The best are America's "Ventura Highway," Gary Wright's "Dream Weaver," Alan Parsons's "Games People Play," and Al Stewart's "Time Passages." Whether relaxing, driving, working, or studying, this fits all moods.

You know for a decade much derided by shriveled exhippy babyboomers from the 60s, the 70s certainly produced a mountain of memorable and creative tunes. This is a great CD with some of the decade's best stuff.
