Product Description

Alex Rossi leads a double life, and it may cost Grace Nolan her son.

The Devlin Group: A privately-owned rogue agency unhindered by red tape and jurisdiction.

Grace Nolan walked away from the Devlin Group carrying Alex Rossi's child in her womb and his bullet in her shoulder. But a ghost from the past has kidnapped her son, Danny. The ransom—Alex Rossi. To get her son back, Grace will have to step back into the life she'd left behind and reveal her secret to Alex.

With vengeance for his mother's murder nearly at hand and a deadly substance on the loose, the last thing Alex Rossi needs is to find himself at the business end of Grace's gun. Now the clock is ticking as they race to save a child and stop a madman bent on destruction.

But Alex has a secret of his own, and it may be the ultimate betrayal.

2.0 out of 5 stars Paper thin protagonists, October 21, 2009

Quick read which fails to develop its protagonists Grace Nolan ad Alex Rossi and their son Danny. Pretends to have action with no suspense and little story development. Good book for reading while you are otherwise distracted, such as while traveling, but not a book you will re-read or may even wish to read similar books by the saame author. The purpose of the freebie is to get the reader to buy more, but one book was enough for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining read but not masterfully written, October 28, 2009

Grace doesn't look like a woman on the run. She tries (and fails) to bake cookies for her son Danny after school. The secret from her past - that she's a butt-kicking secret agent - catches up with her at the beginning of the book, when Danny is kidnapped and held in exchange for her former co-worker Alex.

Grace has a secret she must tell in order to get Alex to go along with her plan. Alex also has a secret that comes out in time.

Could I see the happy ending coming a mile away in this paint-by-numbers thriller? You bet. Anything unexpected? Nope, not really. It's a fairly interesting book that kept me turning pages, but as other reviewers have noted, Stacey is no Hemingway. Not even a Patterson or a Kellerman.

The all-important question: would I read another book by her? Hmmm. So many great books, and so little time; but then, she might improve with her next effort. I wouldn't rule her out, but I'd download a sample before I committed to the next one. This one, being both free (which it no longer is) and a quick read, was just fine. Based on this short novel, she won't make it to my favorite authors list, but she's not blacklisted either.

3.0 out of 5 stars A quick, underwhelming read., October 25, 2009

This review is from: 72 Hours (Kindle Edition)
The good thing about this book is that it can be easily read in a long evening. The bad is that the character development is severely lacking, and plays out like a low budget action movie with no explanation of events other than that they happened and that's that. The story has some good moments but feels hurriedly written and won't leave you feeling satisfied. But hey, it was free.
