Quick read which fails to develop its protagonists Grace Nolan ad Alex Rossi and their son Danny. Pretends to have action with no suspense and little story development. Good book for reading while you are otherwise distracted, such as while traveling, but not a book you will re-read or may even wish to read similar books by the saame author. The purpose of the freebie is to get the reader to buy more, but one book was enough for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining read but not masterfully written, October 28, 2009

Grace doesn't look like a woman on the run. She tries (and fails) to bake cookies for her son Danny after school. The secret from her past - that she's a butt-kicking secret agent - catches up with her at the beginning of the book, when Danny is kidnapped and held in exchange for her former co-worker Alex.

Grace has a secret she must tell in order to get Alex to go along with her plan. Alex also has a secret that comes out in time.

Could I see the happy ending coming a mile away in this paint-by-numbers thriller? You bet. Anything unexpected? Nope, not really. It's a fairly interesting book that kept me turning pages, but as other reviewers have noted, Stacey is no Hemingway. Not even a Patterson or a Kellerman.

The all-important question: would I read another book by her? Hmmm. So many great books, and so little time; but then, she might improve with her next effort. I wouldn't rule her out, but I'd download a sample before I committed to the next one. This one, being both free (which it no longer is) and a quick read, was just fine. Based on this short novel, she won't make it to my favorite authors list, but she's not blacklisted either.

3.0 out of 5 stars A quick, underwhelming read., October 25, 2009

The good thing about this book is that it can be easily read in a long evening. The bad is that the character development is severely lacking, and plays out like a low budget action movie with no explanation of events other than that they happened and that's that. The story has some good moments but feels hurriedly written and won't leave you feeling satisfied. But hey, it was free.

3.0 out of 5 stars Quick but good read, October 23, 2009

I picked this book up for free from Amazon and it didn't disappoint. It was action-filled and full of tension. My only disappointment was with how long it was - it took me less than an hour to read...would liked to have seen the characters a bit more fleshed out and the interaction between the secondary characters could make a good follow-up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great adventure!, October 14, 2009
This review is from: 72 Hours (Kindle Edition)
Great book! It's short, so you can pick it up and finish it in one night.

It's also constant action! And has a strong female lead (nice to find). I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sizzling Passion and a smoking hot cases during the next 72 hours., October 15, 2009
This review is from: 72 Hours (Kindle Edition)
Sean Devlin serves as the guise for secret agent Alex Rossi -- a member of the Devlin Group. He has his sights set on the perp that killed his mother and he will let nothing stand in his way. He also keeps close tabs on a woman that believes the guise, Sean Devlin, is a good friend, but where will this lead when she finds the truth?

Blasts from the past come racing into the story when Alex's former partner, Grace Nolan, discovers her son, Danny, has been taken. But Grace has been retired for sometime and living a peaceful life in the quaintness of the countryside. Alex realizes this is a dire emergency but also knows that he really isn't the first person she wants to reunite with.

Now hold on, because this is where the plot starts to get juicy. Alex and Grace were once an intimate couple until work drove them apart. The father of Danny is unknown by Alex and Grace is unaware that Sean Devlin is her ex-lover, Alex. Mmm Mmm Lip-smacking goodness. So work once tore them apart...and how everything comes full circle as work once again threatens to tear them apart.

The book takes place over the span of 72 hours and in that time a lot happens. Shannon Stacey does a remarkable job keeping the story moving smoothly and without prediction.

Sizzling Passion and a smoking hot cases during the next 72 hours.

There is not a single sentence in this book that will create suspense or surprise you. I would dismiss it as light romance, but it isn't even that well written!
