The first page put me off. Wow, was I wrong !!
It turned out to be a very entertaining and suspenseful book. A shame the author's other book is about something technical, I would have liked to read books from this guy.

An international thriller,
By
This review is from: 72 Virgins (Paperback)
Editors have to believe in a work when they recommend it to a publisher, and as the editor of more than three-hundred books, I can say that Avi Perry's 72 Virgins is one such work. From Israel to Bali to the United States, the players in this international thriller never stop. Although Arik Golan, a major in the Israeli Defense Forces, is hoping to retire and marry his fiancée, Rachel Levy, others have different plans for Arik and will stop at nothing to "persuade" him to pursue terrorist Abu Musa and stop him at all costs. This time, the terrorist plans are so diabolical, just the thought of the targets and the weapons to be used are heart-stopping. From one dangerous encounter to another, 72 Virgins is a non-stop thriller. This author knows his stuff and uses his knowledge authoritatively in this brand new, exciting, heart-stopping thriller. You'll never look at terrorism the same way again...

A Frightening Look Into Jihad,

72 Virgins by Avi Perry
This is a novel that reads like current events or history. The story of an Israel who infiltrates a terrorist cell is fraught with peril. The story paints a dim picture of the ethics of the Intelligence community. I found the story frightening. The games played by the Intelligence community were dismaying at best. The sad part is that it is easy to see why draconian methods are applied to terroristic situations. The brutality of the terrorists is played in counterpoint to their total disregard for human life, both their own and their victims. Our culture generally finds it impossible to understand a culture that lionizes suicide, particularly suicide that is so destructive to others. For some reason I found the story stilted and I couldn't identify why I felt that way. It didn't read easily but that may have been the topic. The book was informative and painted a very vivid picture of fundamental fanatics.

72 Virgins--A Great Read!,
This review is from: 72 Virgins (Paperback)
I am wholly familiar with Middle Eastern politics, but the story introduced information and characterization, which added a new dimension to my understanding of the Islamic terror culture. I loved the scene where Abu Musa, the Islamic terrorist, describes why he hates America. Not only did it make me laugh, it made me understand his point of view. The main characters who play an important role in the plot are intense and distinct. The internal politics inside the FBI and the Israeli Foreign Intelligence Service--the Mossad, made for another eye opener. I loved how the author combined several subplots into a focused climax where they all converged and clashed in a violent conclusion. The subplot about Rachel was quite emotional. I shed a few tears while reading through it. Fatima and Hilga were remarkable in their own way. The unpredictability of the plot made for a captivating read. I loved the ending where the author hints that there is a sequel in the offing. I can't wait...

This review is from: 72 Virgins (Paperback)
The story told in 72 Virgins by Avi Perry is fiction. The key characteristic branding it as such is the particular characters who play throughout the plot. Other than that, Perry takes his inspiration from real events where these characters play in. The book is not limited to entertaining; it is enlightening. Readers may learn a great deal about Islam and the Islamic culture that keeps blowing in our face. In that sense, 72 Virgins by Avi Perry carries attributes typical of non-fiction books on the subject of Islam.
Perry has done a great deal of character building. When reading the book I felt like watching these people thinking, plotting, feeling, communicating--in short, they were alive. I hated some of them and I came to care deeply for others. I became emotionally involved, a feeling I could have never experienced when reading a non-fiction book on the subject. This is where 72 Virgins stands out above the crowd---reading it, moves you emotionally; it makes you care about today's crazy world. The book is filled with non-stop action. It makes you think about the story between reading breaks as well. The few days I was reading it I was fully consumed with the story. If this is what you are looking for when picking up a book for your reading pleasure, then 72 Virgins is the one for you.

This is one of the best books I have ever read. The story is so captivating, I could not put it down. I read it in one short breath. It only took me one 26-hour-day to get through it. I preferred reading over eating or sleeping because I could not stop. The writing style is unique. It blends humor and sarcasm into a wonderful and enjoyable prose. The story plays like a movie. The author paints a colorful moving picture for the reader. It is true with every page. Every scene is choreographed so well, that your imagination transforms the text into a living picture. It has everything Hollywood would love to market--thrill, suspense, romance, love, lust, eye opening information on cultures, political conflicts, history, geography.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves reading.

...I did need a nap; and this book was just the thing to set the mood.
Nothing thrilling. Nothing to get excited about and a "Memunah" of the Service that is named after a large hotel in Haifa. What more could any one want? A book with some entertainment value? Not here. Move along. Well the girls; all seventy two of those chaste ladies can file and paint their nails, cream and do their makeup and gossip away. I did not hate this book. I just took four weeks to finish it. That is about three weeks and six days more than is usual for my reading style. Lets be kind and call it a micro-challenging novel. I give it One Star for cover art and one OY! for the effort.

Another 72 Virgins Saved by Jihadi Guilty Plea,
By Charles F. Benninghoff III "Charles Benninghoff" (Los Angeles, CA USA) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: 72 Virgins (Paperback)
New York, NY - Another jihadist declared himself guilty today in New York City's federal courthouse. This time, it was an Afghan who was Americanized on the East Coast, trained by al quaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan and intent on blowing himself up in the subways of New York.
Only islam is able to put such an army at the fore, it seems. And, whether it is beheading Jewish journalists, desecrating foreign workers or stoning to death philanderers, it seems that the holy war of islam just seems to roll along. For a truly in depth, almost real-life, experience of how these jihadis are both tormented and demented, you might try reading the book 72 Virgins by Avi Perry. Perry, grew up among many of the character-types in his page-burner, then served in the Israeli Defense Forces where he gained valuable and relevant experiences in military intelligence. He was also a professor at Northwestern University, a Bell Laboratories distinguished member and manager, and a Vice President of a hi-tech company. It is clear from the detailed, factual interweaving of technical knowledge into the 72 Virgins that he used all of his knowledge telling this tale. The main character, Arik Golan, begins the story by being discharged from the IDF, then basically eloping on a hot and sexy honeymoon with his sweetheart, Rachel, to Bali. This is where the real fun begins. As the story goes on, the facts between Arik and the jihadis soon take more twists and turns than a bowl of Putanesca at Vince's Italian joint. Arik, with each page, seems to delve ever deeper into the terrorist organization until he, too, is on the run from the CIA, IDF, FBI and even the terrorists themselves. This story is so well developed and told, it took everything I had to put the book down and go to sleep! I give it an A+... Copyright 2010 by Charles Benninghoff72 Virgins

72 Virgins,
By
This review is from: 72 Virgins (Paperback)
The Hamas (Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement) leader in the Gaza region plans to create a Jihad so spectacular that his reward of 72 virgins and a seat next to Allah is guaranteed. The Israeli Mossad Director of Counter Terrorism Strategy plans to ensure that the Hamas leader (Abu Musa) meets his reward before harming another soul. Musa's weapon of choice is a group of Islamic sleeper cells strategically located in the Infidels' lands and supplies from an Iranian terrorist network. Dan Carmel's (Mossad Director) weapon is a reluctant Israeli Defence Force veteran who served in the intelligence division and pioneered a technology that can locate just about any terrorist in the world. The battleground is post 9/11 United States.
In 72 Virgins, Perry centers the story around the epic struggles in the Middle East and their impact on the western world. The protagonist, Arik Golan, is offered the opportunity to infiltrate the most secret of Jihad cells in America for the purpose of stopping another high profile terrorist attack before it begins. Golan, happily retired, turns down the offer only to be manipulated into doing exactly what was asked through the abduction and supposed death of his fiancée, Rachel. Abu Musa, a violent serial killer lauded as a Muslim chieftain, enters the United States with the express purpose of activating a terrorist cell and sending several suicide bombers to paradise while striking a blow in the hearts of the Infidel on par with Islamic triumph of 9/11. Arik is sent to the US to infiltrate and uncover this plot before it is executed. Golan's skill at espionage is so adept that he quickly ends up in the thick of the plot, marking himself as a terrorist in the eyes of the FBI and Homeland Security as well as earning him the murderous hatred and jealousy of Musa. Arik only has a matter of weeks to stay out of the clutches of the FBI, organize and sabotage Jihad attack, and take Abu Musa down. Dr. Avi Perry is himself an Israeli Defence Force veteran and a learned professor and executive in the field of high technology. His novel, 72 Virgins, is an action-packed, fictional account of what could possibly happen on US soil...or what has already been prevented behind the scenes of normal American life. |
