Because Acid loops can be made from many imported files, and because a user might quickly build a huge library of short loops for use in composing other Acid loops, Sonic Foundry has a unique approach to managing files: a File Explorer built right into a small window within the program. This approach works, since it helps manage files on disk as well as show what's available for use.
Acid can export 44 kHz, 16-bit, stereo MP3 and WAV files, as well as files at digital video's native fidelity of 48 kHz, 16-bit stereo. Acid would win the hearts of many video artists if it could save files in Quicktime format, or (better yet) if it could come out in a Mac version.
Still, Acid 2.0 is reason enough to buy a set of PC multimedia speakers with a subwoofer. And if you happen to be more than a music enthusiast, you'll find Acid 2.0 to be useful as well as fun.--Mike Caputo
