A little annoying,
By
This review is from: Boss 725CA In-Dash CD/MP3 Receiver w/ Detachable Front Panel (Electronics)
I replaced a tape deck in my Saab 900 with this Boss unit. I wanted something I could plug my mp3 player into without using a tape converter. My tape deck began making a loud squealing noise whenever a tape was played, so I was in need of an update.
The unit looks cool, and will work for a little while, but for my next unit, I'll probably invest in a higher-quality company's headunit. Here's some trifles with the 725CA: The unit doesn't get very loud, I've found myself playing at the units max volume of 100 and wondering why it doesn't get louder. My old tape deck which proclaimed something around 22Watts MAX seemed to get louder than this unit (I never reached the tape-deck's max volume before). The unit's led lights were way too bright at night and there is no dim feature. I ended up taking the faceplate apart and using black electrical tape over each led; now the unit is at least usable at night without blinding me. Equalizer options are scarce, there are about 3 preset equalizers and the only one that sounds reasonable is Rock. You cannot adjust the bass or treble while an equalizer is in use or the equalizer will be canceled. Perhaps if you utilize an external amp/subwoofer this unit would sound fuller. The unit doesn't seem to be able to adjust crossover settings going through the subwoofer/line out plugs. Indeed, this unit does have many connection options. There is subwoofer and normal line outs. There is an auxiliary input on the front of the unit as well as two auxiliary rca inputs (white/red) on the back of the unit (However, only one can be used at a time as they both pipe into the unit's single AUX mode). It's a cool looking unit, but the internal quality seems to be lackluster. I'll go with a unit that seems to work with me rather than against me in the future.
