5.0 out of 5 stars Great screen for a great price., July 29, 2007

This review is from: 72INX96IN Model B Manual Pull Down Screen Matte White (Electronics)
Nice large screen, hung it up in 10 minutes, smooth pull down and locking mechanism, love the black border around the edges... it really helps frame the picture and make it more dramatic. Rolls up easily and smoothly into a white professional looking metal enclosure. Ships in a long 6" x 6" x 8' box. Used amazon prime and 2 day shipping was free. Highly recommended.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 72INX96IN Model B Manual Pull Down Screen Matte White (Electronics)
My 96" screen arrived in excellent time, and was in perfect condition, even considering it's length.

Having already previously bought and installed the 6 foot wide model - I had this one out of the box, and up and installed in under fifteen minutes. I think one of the most important keys to a successful installation is that (because of its weight) the hooks or screws have to be solidly anchored ... no fudging there.

I've installed both of mine on the upper framing woodwork of windows, and a set of french doors ... and the woodwork being enameled white, and with the white enameled wooden drapery rods .... the shape and the color of the screen's casing allows it to blend in like part of the architectural detailing of the wood trim. This will only work well, though - if the framing is of quality materials and construction ... and the drapery rods have to project away from the wall far enough that the drapes open and close easily. Also, I wouldn't try it on that cheep clam-shell variety of trim found in too many American homes. That stuff is made of the lowest quality and grade of wood they can get --- and most of it is "finger-joint" joined together these days. Some is even made of fiberboard. Anyway - if you want it to work right - install it right ... and be sure to measure (twice and carefully) the distance between the two hanging bracket holes and install the hooks or screws prior (not during) the actual hanging process.

If there's anything which could be improved on; one thing I'd suggest to the manufacturer would be that they provide a gift-wrap ribbon like template with a hole punched in both ends ........ so that one could accurately and relatively effortlessly pre-drill the holes for the screws or hooks. I did my installation myself (alone) - so there was always that chance that the screws could have been off by a "smidge" ... resulting in a new hole having to be drilled. Of course with the weight and length of this 96" unit - IDEALLY, ONE SHOULD HAVE TWO PEOPLE - otherwise one risks personal injury or damage to the unit. A second thing I'D HIGHLY RECOMMEND would be to be consistent with the dimensions / measurements shown on the websites. For each screen offered, there should be a CONSISTENT (from one to the next) listing of all dimensions (View screen width, height, diagonal, and ratio PLUS the overall dimensions of the entire unit (for those who have a space. If a person has only a 96" space available ... one doesn't want the surprise of receiving a 96" viewable area width screen that has an Overall width of 102".

Moving on ... the screen is solidly built as it can be ... and made of quality materials. Nowadays, one expects to get a tinny - flimsy metal casing on just about everything .......... but not here.

I've only pulled it down twice so far, to make sure it worked ... but the lowering and raising mechanisms worked flawlessly, without even a hint of a problem. For myself, I like to sort of hold on to the handle with only a slight restraining pressure while it recoils ... rather than just "letting it fly" to recoil fast as it can (which seems would be kind of juvenile and stupid, in my estimation).

So - if you're looking for a reasonably priced, well constructed, well made screen ... I think that this one might be the one for you. At this particular width, though - I would not want to keep in in the extended / down position for long periods of time for fear of the (albeit high quality) screening material's weight leading to slight distortion (from all that "pulling down" weight on the interior rod). Also - if you install it like I did, over a window; you need to be aware that the backside of the screen is black ... so one would not ever want to have it in the down position while sunshine was coming in at that window (because the black will absorb and magnify the heat of the incoming sun, and doubtless distort and irreparably damage the material of the screen).

TO SUMMARIZE ... GREAT QUALITY, GREAT MATERIALS ... GREAT WORKSMANSHIP ... GREAT CONSTRUCTION ...... GREAT PRICE !!!!! WHAT MORE COULD ONE WANT. (Yes - I'm THAT HAPPY with it ... and no, I don't work for the company ... honest).
