5.0 out of 5 stars This shocked me Serious like
I have loved AC/DC ever since problably about 79' I believe and I finally bought 74' Jailbreak this week. This cd was released in 84' and includes "jailbreak" which was recorded in 76' but for some reason was never included in any release other than this one. "You ain't got a hold on me" is also included and it was recorded in 74'. The title song...

2.0 out of 5 stars In desperate need of an overhaul
I really can't see how Atlantic records can justify selling this for the same price as "Dirty Deeds," "High Voltage," "Powerage," or "Let There Be Rock," especially in the age of the archival CD release. It's WAY too short, especially when you consider all of the unreleased-in-the-US songs from the Bon Scott era that could have been added to flesh this out. How about the...

The title song Jailbreak is really a piece of work. I would have been a stellar song on any of AC/DC's albums during the 70's heyday. This cd blew me away the first time I listend to it. I have heard Jailbreak once or twice over the years but I didn't know what I was missing. It really brings out Bon's style in the same way that Can I sit next to you girl, Dirty eyes, Rock and roll singer, and whole lotta rosie do. If you are a fan who just stresses over the fact that Bon died and that other guy took over then you are in luck. Maybe it is new to you too and your in for a real treat. Nothing meant bad torward Brian but there was no one on this earth who could replace the Nasty little Bonfire. By the way why did angus and malcolm put Back In Black in Bonfire box set and not this cd????????????????????????????????????Thank you Thank you people I am glad you liked the show -- yes -- yes goodnite and God Bless--(Bon 75')Rip

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, But Somewhat Incomplete, June 3, 2000
This review is from: 74 Jailbreak (Audio CD)
This is a good album, but I can't see giving it 5 stars. I mean, the title track is possibly the best song they ever did with Bon at the helm, but that's really the only great song on here. None of the rest are bad by any means, but they're not classic either. The cover of Baby Please Don't God is quite good though, as is Soul Stripper. I guess I like this album more than I think I do.

However, it is short, and they should've added more songs to it during the remastering process. Despite this album and Volts from Bonfire there are still a handful of AC/DC tracks that have yet to be released in America. This shouldn't be! All in all, this is a worthy album though, because of the title track, and because it's generally cheaper than their other cds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great old AC/CD, November 23, 1999

This review is from: 74 Jailbreak (Audio CD)
This short, bluesy collection shows a very creative band with a flamin' guitar man and a clever, rowdy vocalist. The title track is still one of my all time rock favorites: Simple, direct and gets you in the gut. Bon Scott's wasteful demise really prevented this band from reaching its true potential. Enjoy all 5 tunes on this CD with a beer and play some air guitar.

It's WAY too short, especially when you consider all of the unreleased-in-the-US songs from the Bon Scott era that could have been added to flesh this out. How about the early pre-Bon single "Can I Sit Next To You Girl/Rockin' In The Parlor?" Live tracks, anything! Make it worth the money! Look at what an excellent job MCA did with the Who's "Odds & Sods" reissue, or Columbia did with the Clash's "Super Black Market Clash." Don't misunderstand...the music's great, but the package [stinks]. AC/DC's fans should be treated with a little more respect than this.

5.0 out of 5 stars CRUSHING, BRUTAL GUITAR RIFFS WILL KNOCK YOU ON YOUR ***!, September 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: 74 Jailbreak (Audio CD)
All you have to do is listen to the incredible title track and you will realize that early ac/dc was one of the purest, most ferocious rock bands there ever was. At a time when goofy "experimental rock"(Yes, Supertramp) and disco polluted the radio waves, Bon and the boys were dishing out some of the nastiest songs ever recorded. The title track alone is worth the price, and it makes today's "bad boy" bands(Bizkit, Korn) sound like talentless wussies.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not enough songs!!!!!, March 6, 2006
By
This review is from: 74 Jailbreak (Audio CD)
This is a good cd but they should have made it better. A new fan of Bon-Era AC/DC don't realize how many more great songs there are. This should have been the track list:

1. Jailbreak
2. You Ain't Got A Hold On Me
3. Show Business
4. Soul Stripper
5. Baby, Please Don't Go
6. Rock In Peace *
7. Crabsody In Blue*
8. School Days*
9. Carry Me Home*
10. Love Song*
11. Stick Around*
12. Cold Hearted Man*
13. Fling Thing*

If you are a fan of bon scott era acdc then get the songs that are asterisked via bootleg or jut download them its well worth it

4.0 out of 5 stars All Hail "Soul Stripper", February 8, 2000
This review is from: 74 Jailbreak (Audio CD)
Bon Scott's appeal, besides his MC of Sleaze lyric content, was his guy-from-the-neighborhood quality. Thank God there was an era when rock'n'rollers were neither role models or marketing majors. 74 JAILBREAK is an uncut dose of Bon at his dirty, filthy best. "Soul Stripper" is an AC/DC milestone, but all five of these tracks burn with fuel-efficiency.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a must have cd, January 16, 2000

Any one who hasn't heard this collection of rare songs is missing out. The title track is one of the best songs that they ever did. I was amazed when I first heard it. It has a funny sort of story to it and very good tune. The second song You Ain't Got A Hold On Me is the second best track on the Ep and really makes this cd worthwile.----I just can't get over the lyrics on Jailbreak though " but he made it out -------------pause------------with a bullet in his baaaaaaccccck ----Jailbreak, I'm gonna make a Jailbreak ". Or the beginning, " I ain't spendin' my life here, I ain't living alone, I been breakin the rocks on the chain gang, I'm bustin out and headin home---I'm gonna make a Jailbreak". Love this stuff--God bless and goodnight-- ps: pray for Bon's soul, maybe God will forgive him since he brought so much pleasure to so many!

I've heard a lot of complaints over the years about the fact that this album only has five songs, but it still remains among the elite AC/DC albums. For that matter, it is one of the best hard rock albums of all time. From the opening of Jailbreak to the rocking blues cover, Baby Please Don't Go, Bon and Angus show why the band went on to be rock and roll legends. In a time when cds have one or two radio hits and the rest of the cd is filler, I will gladly take these five rock and roll classics.

If you enjoy Bon Scott, this CD is a must have. It's bluesy sound is unlike any of the other Scott Cds, and the boys really turn it up musically. Jailbreak, Soul Stripper, and Baby Please Don't Go are as good as rock gets!
