NoTouch ramp load technology - The recording head never touches the disk media ensuring significantly less wear to the recording head and media as well as better drive protection in transit.
IntelliSeek - Calculates optimum seek speeds to lower power consumption, noise and vibration.
Desktop / Consumer RAID environments - WD Caviar Green Hard Drives are tested and recommended for use in consumer-type RAID applications. (RAID-0 / RAID-1)*
*Business Critical RAID Environments – WD Caviar Green Hard Drives are not recommended for and are not warranted for use in RAID environments utilizing Enterprise HBAs and/or expanders and in multi-bay chassis, as they are not designed for, nor tested in, these specific types of RAID applications. For all Business Critical RAID applications, please consider WD's Enterprise Hard Drives that are specifically designed with RAID-specific, time-limited error recovery (TLER), are tested extensively in 24x7 RAID applications, and include features like enhanced RAFF technology and thermal extended burn-in testing.
Leading the way to green hard drives - WD led the industry in creating a new category of hard drives that use less power and help reduce the world's energy demands one computer user at a time. These drives consume significantly less power than standard drives spinning at 7200 RPM. All WD Caviar Green drives are lead and halogen free, resulting in less pollutants getting into our environment. Beyond the product level, WD's green initiative goes even further focusing on recycling and improving the cleanliness of the air, water and land in the locations surrounding WD facilities.

This review is from: 750GB SATA II 7200 RPM 16MB (Personal Computers)
I have this drive and WD's next generation of the same drive, WD7500AADS, the one with 32 MB of Cache.
I used these two drives in my HP Media Vault 2120 and love it. I didn't choose to do a RAID, so I have a combined 1.3 TB of storage in the Media Vault. One thing to note, the drives work great but data transfer does not seem to be quite as fast as the Blue Caviar or my Seagate Baracudas. What I mean by that is when I transfer lots of files from one drive to the other, I think the transfer rates are slower sing Windows Explorer. Of course I know Explorer has a lot of overhead that may slow down transfer rates but the Seagate Baracdas seem to large amounts of data (like 200 GB or so) much more quickly. I like the idea of power savings however, since the NAS is always running. These drives are ridiculously cool to the touch. They are much cooler to the touch when in use versus other HDDs. For a little sacrifice in performance, I get drives that are much cooler and uses less energy. If you need all out speed, these are the wrong drives for you. If you need alot of storage and use these either as a backup or in a NAS, these drives are perfect. Go get a WD Black or WD Raptor if you need speed to run your games and get one of these drives to store all your music and photos.

The drive installed perfectly. It runs quite and cool in my freenas (freeNAS.org) box. As with all hard drives, it comes down to longevity and that is not something that I can review 3 weeks after purchase. If you are going to mirror the data than that is less important.
