77 Suinset Strip sound track,

This album is outstanding. West Coast cool jazz performed by Warren Barker and a group of uncredited but highly talented musicians. I have always wondered why the musicians have never been identified because there is some excellent piano, vibes and horn work on this album. The German CD reissue has excellent sound quality. I was listening to this album in 1959 and still listen to it in 2004. Henry Mancini created the private eye jazz style ("Peter Gunn") but Warren Barker added greatly to it with this album.

77 Sunset Strip was the first and best of the Warner Bros. 50's detective shows. The cast was above average, the stories, which were copied for the other shows that followed, were well written. After listening to this cd, you realize this album could have stood for it's self and not just background music. I highly recommend this hard to find cd if you are a fan of 50's big band.

This album was a surprise for me from the days when the TV show was running and my mother gave it to me. I was a kid, but I listened to it often and being able to listen to it again after five decades was quite nice. What is surprising that it sounds to my ear as a pretty good jazz album. I have always liked the extensive use of bass clarinet on it. The album includes several settings of some standards as well as the TV show theme and two different variations on it. It is definately a product of its time. Enjoy.

Ladies: put on your cocktail dresses and men: your white sports coats and black bowties! Turn the lights low, get out your pink elephant swizzle sticks and silver bullet cocktail shakers! When I saw this CD online from yesteryear's "77 Sunset Strip" series, I just had to listen! I did, and knew I had to have it. This is one suave, fun, upbeat collection with awesome orchestral arrangements! (Vibraphones; oboes; horns; flutes; drums; piano, etc.) This music will make you feel young, sexy and sophisticated all at once! It personally took me back to my teenage crushes on Roger Moore and that Kaa-razy Kool Kookie Kharacter! This musical mood-journey appropriately begins with the original finger-poppin' `77' theme, which put an immediate smile on my face with its familiar chorus/chant and waa-waa saxophone. The theme is repeated three more times: the second, in a catchy cha-cha version with great horns; the third time, the melody slinks out of "Blue Night On The Strip" like a sex kitten from her boudoir, then... STRUTS out its finale in Swinging on The Strip! My personal other favorites: "Late At Bailey's Pad": sneaky, seductive and upbeat; the carefree "I Get A Kick Out Of You": great piano, bongos; "Caper At The Coffee House": another finger-popper with a mischievous sleuthing edge to it; "You Took Advantage Of Me": An old-fashioned ditty that puts you right at the `piano bar' and makes you want to grab a `mike' and sing (or at least tap your foot!); "Stu Bailey's Blues" - not so `blue'! I find it exciting. My final word? This CD is cool background music for the `bachelor or bachelorette pad', cocktail/retro parties, and on-the-road listening entertainment! |
