7W LED Review & Clarification,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 7W LED Incandescent Replacement Light
I rarely write reviews but I felt compelled to write one for this product. I purchased this 7W LED bulb one month ago. Being an engineer, I spent a great deal of time reviewing LED bulbs before deciding to purchase this one. Before I provide my review of the LED bulb, I want to provide some clarification. Having read the other reviews where some people said that they received something different than what was pictured, I decided to e-mail Priority Energy and Lighting before I placed my Amazon order. I was pleasantly surprised that Paul Prior, the CEO and president of Priority Energy and Lighting e-mailed me back the very next day. He told me that they used to sell the frosted globe that is pictured above but he said that most people preferred the clear glass. Paul also said that I could still order the frosted glass version but I would have to go through their system and not Amazon's site. He said that the frosted version available through their system is 2,700K (yellow, warmer color, typical color of incandescent, and frosted). If you are interested in purchasing the frosted version, you can contact them at priorityled DOT com. I agree with other people that the photo of the LED bulb on Amazon's site should match exactly what people are going to receive. In the product description, they could let people know that the frosted version is also available but you have to go through Priority Energy and Lighting directly to purchase the frosted version.Ok, now to my review of the clear glass 7W LED bulb that I ordered through Amazon and I knew was going to be clear before I placed my order. I am extremely happy with this bulb. It replaced a 13W Compact Fluorescent Light bulb (CFL) in a standard lamp that is the primary light in our living room. It definitely has the lumens to be a 60-70W replacement. Compared to the 13W CFL bulb that was in the lamp before, there is virtually no difference in lumens. As some people have mentioned, the light may be a little harsh depending on where it's going. For me, it went into a lamp that has a cream-colored shade and while the light is a little more white compared to the previous CFL (in the same lamp with the same shade), the difference is so minor that I don't think many people will notice much difference. Especially if it's going into a fixture with a shade covering it. If you are considering putting this LED bulb into a fixture that has no shade such as a bathroom vanity light, you might want to consider going directly to Priority Energy and Lighting to purchase the frosted version. As someone else mentioned, this LED bulb is a little big and it barely fit inside the lamp where the previous CFL easily fit. The LED bulb turns on immediately and there is no warm-up time or subtle flicker that some older CFL bulbs have. I could not be happier with this LED bulb and I would buy it again without hesitation. Since this LED bulb is in the primary lamp in our living room, we're saving 6W several hours each night compared to the 13W CFL bulb that we were previously using. I'm looking forward to when the price comes down so that I can buy more of this same bulb to replace other CFL bulbs that are throughout our house. Update 11/23/10: We have been using this LED bulb for several hours every single evening now for over 6 months and it continues to work great. Zero issues and I would still buy it again without hesitation.

I purchased this bulb to try out. The first bulb I received was the daylight version, even though I ordered the soft white. I left a semi negative review and promptly received a phone call from the CEO of the company. He asked that I send the bulb back, which I did. I just received the new bulb via DHL priority and it is now the correct bulb. I have to say they have great customer service and I feel pretty comfortable ordering from them in the future. Based on what I have now, I deleted my negative feedback and think they did a good job of resolving the issue. Also, the bulb that I now have is one of the best lights I have bought so far regarding soft white or 2700 Kelvin. I have some pictures on my blog: [...]

I am very happy with this LED light, have tried a lot of other junk out there. This certainly has the lumens to be a 60-70W replacementThis 7W LED gives very clear whitish light, may too harsh for some. My light has a clearer cover than the picture above so that you can see the LEDs. It is a gorgeous item to look at and have in your home like a mini chandelier. This may be cost-effective for high use incandescent 60-70W bulbs and for people concerned about mercury in CFLs.

Bright Light but has same problem as all LED bulbs,

Bought the light because I have been trying to try out LED bulbs as they come out to find one that is even slightly similar to an incandescent bulb. I refuse to buy CFL's as I have alot of kids and pets and do not want to buy bulbs that have mercury if broken. I do have a couple CFL in select locations that the kids and pets cannot get to (i.e above the kitchen sink in a sealed light enclosure). We have a tall lamp in our living room that we leave on 24hr/day. We currently have a 60W incandescent in there, but I have been looking for a lower wattage bulb so have been trying LED's. This bulb was very bright, but most of the light was on the ceiling. The rest of the room was pretty dark with just this bulb. I tried it in our hallway ceiling light, but it all was aimed at one end of hallway. It looked REALLY good in our dining room chandelier. Even looked brighter than the 60W bulbs, but the chandelier is on a dimmer and this bulb did not dim at all. So we ended up trying it on our porch in the recessed ceiling lights. Looks really good, but the cover barely closes because the bulb is so big. I guess I don't understand why if LED's are very directional lights, companies keep facing them all in one direction. Can't you make a round shape ofthe LEDs so they face in all directions. I'm not a scientist, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

I used this bulb to replace a 42watt CFL bulb in a nook chandelier. It's even brighter and I don't have to worry about the mercury hazards of CFL's/ Unlike the previous reviewer, the encasement surrounding the LED's is completely opaque just like a standard light bulb. Despite the price, this will last for many years and I'll eventually save plenty of money. 7w v 42, who could argue? Great product.

This bulb seemed to me to be about as bright as a 40 watt incandescent light bulb. It is wider than average, about 3.5", but not enormous for a light bulb. It might be too wide for some light fixtures. It just barely fit in the fixture where I am using it The bulb arrived in a few days by U S Mail.Unfortunately this bulb made a little radio frequency interference with my TV, but I could only see it on one weak station. In the light fixture I put in in it is far enough from the antennas so that all stations come thru all right. 6 out of 12 LED bulbs that I have tried made at least a little TV interference, one of them much worse.

Product is really large. Like a desk snow globe, just a little smaller. Yes, it fits in a regular light socket. No, it wouldn't fit in any lamp I've got without being a bit snug with the lamp shade supports. It wouldn't fit in any ceiling fixture I have either. It's just too wide or long or both. It might fit in a lamp where you've got some good space between the regular light bulb and the shade supports for the lamp. Otherwise, I don't know where to put this thing. Might have to wait for the technology to get smaller so the LEDs can fit where the regular bulbs fit.

I bought this thinking I could replace a traditional bulb, however, this bulb is big- way too big for my in ceiling lighting, garage door opener, or to fit in an outdoor shade for a porch light. I did find a spot for it, but unfortunately for me the light is more daylight than warm. The light output is impressive for only 7W.

I AM ASENIOR CITIZEN THAT MAKES THE NIGHT PIT STOP RUN IN THE DARK.....I purchased a Fingerhut 70" floor light that HAS 4 legs-3 shelves... and two single sockets.... one lamp up and one lamp down,, on the down one...I added several lamp socket extenders and tried several motion detectors with this LED BULB.... now I can see at night ....as those little night lights are a joke. THE BULB DOES NOT BOTHER ME WHEN AT MY DESK OR RECLINER WATCH THE TV LIKE OTHER BULBS DO... THAT SHINE SIDEWAYS. SO I NOW GET THE LIGHT.... WITHOUT THE GLARE.

Wow....a lot more light than I expected. I got the pure white (vs soft white) bulb and am very happy with the performance. The unit is a little larger than I expected...but oh! the light! (and only 7watts, yeah!)Easily as bright as a 60 watt incandescent bulb, maybe even a 75W. I use it on my front porch with an "on at dusk off at dawn sensor" ....maybe the 3Watt bulbs at half the price would have been sufficient...dunno? But this bulb is excellent...we will see if it lasts. I have been disappointed with numerous CFL bulbs which are supposed to last years, and only lasted months. Buy it, you will like it. Maybe these LED bulbs will come down in price in the near future...the up front cost is too much to buy a lot of them. |
