A great display of the emerging talent of one of the 80s/90 kings of urban comtemporary jazz,

Though he didn't become overly well-known until his breakthrough 1986 effort "Introducing Jonathan Butler" (his first complete studio album), Jonathan Butler had been sporadically recording for almost a decade before that, and this compilation album collects some otherwise unreleased tracks that he recorded in the late 70s & early 80s, and like his later works, the songs collected here are all solid examples of the highly-polished smooth jazz and jazz-flavored R&B that would later become his trademark. Every song is solid and enjoyable, especially good are the urban contemporary midtempo jam "You And I" and the funky romp "Do The Boogie."

It is a very good cd from the very early days of Jonathan Butler. Worth checking out.
