5.0 out of 5 stars Great game, completely underrated
For all true RPG gamers, this game is a must for your collection. These days, almost every RPG you play makes it so easy for you, ie. FFX, where your health completely rejuvenates at every save point! Games such as this one are so classic and old school that they make it a true challenge. 3.0 out of 5 stars Something that has gone unmentioned
I agree that this game requires strategy, but what isn't said is that the game seriously lacks a sense of balance. It isn't too hard to go through the tower, but the you get to the Earth cave and BANG, you take three or so hits from a zombie and its all over. Actually get to the Scion at the end of the cave and you'll be gone in less that that. I like the fact that in...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great game, completely underrated, April 17, 2003
This review is from: 7th Saga (Video Game)
For all true RPG gamers, this game is a must for your collection. These days, almost every RPG you play makes it so easy for you, ie. FFX, where your health completely rejuvenates at every save point! Games such as this one are so classic and old school that they make it a true challenge. It's one of the hardest games I've ever played; if you hate leveling up and being strategic and having to THINK in battles, this game isn't for you. But this is why I love it. You're not just sitting there and "kill, kill, kill," but you must think or else you'll never get farther.

Leveling up does great, but it doesn't always cut it. Strategy is the main key to this game. Think about this...you're stuck on a boss character, so you go level up for six hours and come back, and low and behold, the boss has also leveled up and is even harder! This is why no matter how strong you are, the battles will still be a challenge. This is sort of annoying at times, but overall makes the game much more smart.

Sorry for rambling, let me tell you a little about the game's story. You get to choose between 7 characters in the beginning. It took me a few times to actually find out what character I liked the best. They all have certain advantages and disadvantages. For instance, Esuna (female elf) is extremely powerful with magic and has great agility, but is so phsyically fragile that one blow can often kill her. Quite the opposite of Lux (the robot) who has very strong defense and requires no armor, but isn't very good with magic and has slow speed. Your mission is to go out and find the seven runes scattered over Ticondera. Whoever finds them all will gain a huge amount of power and will be able to control the world.

One of the neatest features in the game is that you can find the other 6 warriors looking for the runes in towns throughout the game. You can talk to these people and they will either want to become your companion, fight you, or just to say something silly. It's always wise to have a companion with you, and especially one that balances you out.

There's not much else to say, except that the game is extremely hard. It's always the little things though, so as your armor never gets strong enough, you don't gain levels fast enough, and most annoyingly, you can only carry up to 9 of each item at a time! (Think only 9 potions in a horrific dungeon!) But that is what makes up the beauty of the game. I definitely recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of Enix classic games, July 15, 2001
This review is from: 7th Saga (Video Game)
I had first saw this game in 1992. It immediatly climbed to #1 on my list. The story was decent, but the platform was unique. It played like no other RPG at the time. There were aspects that were confusing, but what was really neat was that depending on what character (of the seven) you choose, depends on the progression of the game. Certian characers will intereact differently with the NPC's then others. If you are for the classics, then this RPG is THE one to find. Currently only for SNES. It's worth buying. A splendid game.

Actually get to the Scion at the end of the cave and you'll be gone in less that that. I like the fact that in other RPGs you can actually level up to get stronger than a boss, but in this game, the bosses get harder, so you have to use "strategy" (aka luck) to beat certain bosses. It could have been so good if it were balanced, like Final Fantasy games, which, in the old days, actually did require strategy.

I can remember playing this game in the early 90's. I remember it being rather direct in where to go but I remember the fight system being odd compared to many rpgs in the day. I used to have trouble getting far. There is quite a bit of time devoted to leveling and building your characters. I also remember playing the demon most of any of the characters. I found it fun but I didn't play much devoting more time to Final Fantasy 2 and 3. I forget the numbers in the original sequence but remember the SNES NA numbers. I was also playing Shadowrun quite a bit at the time. However, with all that said about memories, 7th Saga is a game worth playing and spending time exploring. The game's overall flow is more like Dragon Warrior then Final Fantasy which is very refreshing. The fact that each character has a different focus gives each person something to enjoy. Pick a copy up. You will enjoy spending some time in a classic SNES RPG.

Although I haven't owned this game (I've rented it countless times), I love it and would recommend it to anyone who loves RPG's. I like the fact that you can pick from one of seven characters, each of which has different strengths and weaknesses. It's really cool too that you can meet up with the other six characters throughout the game.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Game but Too Hard, October 4, 2011
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: 7th Saga (Video Game)
I've played alot of RPGs! RPGs are actually a preference of mine. I've practically played all of the genres on Nintendo, PlayStation, and some on CPU and Sega. This is by far the hardest I've come across though. Everything's playable till you get to Dowaine... a town across the mountains using the submarine. Once you get there, there's all these enemies that cause status effects on you and raise themselves. Besides the fact that you'll miss hitting the enemies here and there, the game gets freaking impossible from here! Whoever designed this game is an idiot! They should at least make it playable! I have an emulator on my computer where I can save wherever I want, and even then it's impossible!... morons =o(

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favourites, March 5, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: 7th Saga (Video Game)
This game is one of my favourite RPGs. It has a very crude feeling in graphics, and basically everything is crude, but that made it more fun and adventurous. It's very difficult to compare I agree with the others who said it is not like Final Fantasy, and has gameplay and grinding comparable to Dragon Warrior. You choose one of seven adventurers trained by King Lemele to gather the seven runes and gain ultimate power. Choosing your adventurer means you are not choosing the other six who will show up again and again as you compete for the runes.

I know the difficulty is very high, but that is part of the charm of the game, if you will. You can always improve your level by grinding. One of the interesting components is that the other six adventurers always have the same level as your main character (except your companion can differ when you choose one of the six as your companion). There are a very few times where you *have* to fight one of the others over the runes. So it becomes a challenging boss fight that you can't level up before completing. Leveling up before this fight may make it more difficult. Also, if you lose to another adventurer they will take all your runes. I always reset my game if that happened because the runes provide a lot of combat benefits (increased defence, magic, healing) and trying to fight the counterpart without the help of the runes is a suicide mission.

You will probably have to try to go through the dungeons several times in order to succeed. This is part getting an idea of the layout and part 'were you lucky enough to not get wiped out by monsters before reaching the boss?'

The music and sound effects are crude and loud. I might even say 'blaring'. But this isn't a bad thing. The tunes are very catchy. The feeling is not annoying, but more like a busy marketplace. The story is simple, yet very satisfying as you watch it slowly develop.

One more thing, always remember to DEFEND first, then ATTACK. This will temporarily increase your HP[attack power]. ; )

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst game ever!, April 24, 2009
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: 7th Saga (Video Game)
I have been playing video games my entire life and this game is the worst game I have ever played. You can't walk two steps without fighting an enemy and it takes hours to go through one very small castle because of this. The gameplay is horrid, and boring, the music is painfully redunant. Everything about this game sucks! I threw it in the trash!
