I've given up on Guru!,
By Berk "Berk" (CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 8.0: Lost & Found (Audio CD)
This album is worse than the last one. Experience is supposed to teach you and guide you. I just can't see Guru sitting in the studio working on this, after working a decade and a half with the most sought after producer in the game (DJ Premier), and thinking, "Yeah, that sounds good. We gonna kill 'em with this one." ANYBODY with ears who knows hip-hop cannot truthfully say that the beats on this are tight. The lyrics are... well they are Guru but with such weak production they come off as nothing more than pathetic. The beats are actually quite laughable. You'd think you were listening to an album made by people who have only heard rap music in commercials.
I do have to give it up to Guru though. He must have some sort of loyalty to continue working with "superproducer" Solar again after that last album full of weak beats. Is Guru trying to spite the music world by continuing to put out garbage music without the ONLY person that made him great? Any time you have to resort to auto-tune on your tracks "Ride Feat. Omar" AND "Own Worst Enemy" (WTF?) and disco beats "Divine Rule" it's time to hang it up. You just can't polish this turd! Anyone who rates this album above a two must either know Guru or feel too sorry for him to give him a poor rating. I doubt anyone really wants to hear any more of this kind of garbage from Guru. Don't encourage this. No more albums unless it's Gang Starr!

Solar must have pictures,

Just hearing the samples is enough to tell me this CD is more of what made 'Street Scriptures' a tombstone for Guru's artistic credibility. I won't speak to street credibility, since I have none but...oh what the heck! Even without any street cred I can tell this CD will take the sizzle out of Guru's fasizzle! I could make something more hardcore than this with my granny on the boards! As for Solar, no amount of PR spin will make this guy anything more than what he is: a 3rd rate clone who listened to too many Puff Daddy tracks in the 90s. Why Guru made yet another CD with this talentless zombie is beyond me. I can only guess Solar has majorly compromising pics of Guru and is blackmailing him.

I loved Guru 7.0. This Album has 3-4 good songs on it including the title track but most of them are disappointing.
Guru 7.0 is off the chain though...

I have no words for this other than - why? Why guru, why? This is everything he stood against for umpteen years. To become relevant again, sure re-invigorate/re-invent, but don't succumb to the norms, don't be what you have fought to prevent. I beg anyone who reads this DO NOT BUY THIS! I love you Guru, have some common sense, auto-tune really?

Guru puts out another classic!,
This review is from: 8.0: Lost & Found (Audio CD)
This album is amazing! I've been a fan of Guru's since the GangStarr days, and he takes it back to true hip-hop with this album. Solar helms production on the album, making this hip-hop legend shine yet again. Pick up this album to see what the game's been missing!!
