Simply Amazing,
By Roscoe (Taxachusetts, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 8 Cup Cordless Kettle 40898
I bought this kettle because I wanted one that was all stainless steel on the inside. With some of the cheaper electric kettles, God only knows what chemicals are leaching out of the plastic and into the water you're about to drink. Many of the reviews of the plastic hot pots even mention the plastic smell of the water after you heat it. This is why I spent the extra thirty dollars to get one that was all stainless steel.
Regarding the construction, the kettle is double-walled stainless steel with an air gap or other insulation in between. This keeps the outside from getting hot during and after heating the water. Another nice feature is that there isn't an exposed heating element inside the kettle, so you don't have to worry about minerals building up on it. The cover is well designed. You press a button on the cover itself and it installs onto two pivot points at the top of the kettle. There is a button on the top of the handle that you can press to either lock the cover closed, or open it so you can pour in the water. I've only had the kettle a couple weeks, so I can't speak to its longevity, however I am amazed every time I use it just how fast it heats the water to boiling. I use it in my cubicle at work and it's very quiet, although as the water approaches a boil, you can hear a simmering noise. It's nothing more than you get when you boil water on the stove, so that's to be expected. I would encourage anyone who is interested in getting an electric kettle to buy this model. It seems to be a very well designed and manufactured product.

THE BEST - NO PLASTIC WATER TASTE - ALL STAINLESS STEEL INSIDE,
By mmindigo (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 8 Cup Cordless Kettle 40898
I love this kettle. You pour the water through a large opening made possible by an easily removable lid, into a completely seamless stainless steel kettle. The spout is wide and efficient. When you are holding the pot your hand doesn't touch the hot kettle because there is a plastic strip preventing burning. The only thing that people might prefer is a more visible line to determine "Max" level. I use my 4 qt measuring cup to pour the water. The water is boiled in about 3 minutes. The only thing I would like to see added to a kettle, which I haven't seen anywhere, is the ability to set it to go only to 180º since I drink mostly green tea. Now I just let the water cool a minute, add the jasmine pearls and voila. A big bonus ~ there are many questions about boiling and plastic ~ with this pot you don't have to worry ~ it's all seamless steel inside. Enjoy!!

Broke after 6 months,
By BB "BB" (Connecticut, USA) - See all my reviews

Worked great but broke after 6 months. Would not turn on. It is all steel inside but the lid is plastic. Made in China.
Update Oct 21, 2008. After it broke, the company replaced it without any problems. The replacement is still working but makes strange clicking sounds sometimes so it may be on the way out too. One comment about other people saying that it leaks. It is solid metal inside, no seams, so it doesn't really leak. What happens sometimes is if you overfill it, the boiling water escapes through an opening inside (close to the very top). So this is not really a defect. This is the only electric kettle I know of that is all solid metal inside.

Would be perfect with just a few minor changes,

After looking at lots of kettles, and reading lots of reviews, I'm glad I purchased this one. For an all-stainless, cordless kettle, the price is great. Also, it is double-walled, with a seamless interior, which is a big bonus for several reasons. Water inside will stay hotter, there are no nooks and crannies for bacteria or hard water deposits to build up, and the outside stays cooler. Also, you are not boiling your water in plastic, which is the carcinogen du jour. Also, the sleek, stainless design looks great on the counter top. As an item that sees daily use, this is where my kettle will live, so looks were important. Filled to the max fill line, this pot brought water to a boil in approximately 3 minutes. The few minor drawbacks I've noticed so far are:
1. Max fill line should be at back. It is hard to see when the lid is on, in the up position. 2. The lid design is slightly awkward. We have a pull-out faucet, so filling is no big deal, but this might be an issue if you need to tip it to get it under the spout. Also, it takes a quick, firm "snap" to get the lid to latch into the closed position, and I wonder if it will fail eventually. A more solid latch would be nice. 3. The pour spout could be more well-defined. It doesn't really drip, but may be awkward for pouring into tea pots with small openings, etc. 4. It is tall and narrow. This reduces the footprint on the counter, but a short, squat design might reduce heating time somewhat. 5. The base could be a little heavier and sturdier-feeling. If this kettle holds up to daily use, it will be well worth the investment, and best of its class, especially considering that it is significantly cheaper than much of the competition.

Why design with plastic???,
By
This review is from: 8 Cup Cordless Kettle 40898
First, let me say I love this kettle. The solid, stainless steel pot that won't leak (because it's solid), double-walled so it's cool to the touch on the outside, and even though the base is made of cheap plastic (mine came with a small crack in it that didn't affect functionality), it heats the water super-quickly and for the price is fine with me. I've had it for about 2 months now, still works great.
But why do they make these kettles with tops that are half-plastic? I have yet to find a kettle that has NO plastic on any of the parts that touch the water. C'mon guys, boiling water touching plastic means eventually it will melt/break down.

Great kettle - look no further,

I second the comments in the other reviews. I've been using this kettle daily for about three months and it's just great. It's made of metal everywhere it counts, heats water amazingly quickly, and is -as titled- cool to the touch. I recommended it to a friend and he likes it just as much. The only caveat I would add is that you should pour carefully; the spout portion is not shaped correctly if you try to pour too quickly. (But this is a minor gripe as one should really not be dumping boiling hot water carelessly anyway).

Fantastic Kettle !!!!!!!!!!!,
This review is from: 8 Cup Cordless Kettle 40898
I bought the Hamilton Beach Cool Touch Kettle at Target today for $29.95, and am very pleased.
The lid is easily removed, but does not fall off when pouring, and the screen filter is an added plus. It has a large opening that allows easy cleaning of the inside. I did have a leaking problem just like someone else reported, but I learned that it was operator error. Overfilling will cause the kettle to leak through the overflow port at the top of the handle and direct hot water safely down through the bottom. I guess this is to protect those that don't read the directions. The maximum fill line in on the inside at the front, and I found this a little hard to see. I wish they had put the fill line at the back where water is added. This unit is QUICK!!! and makes very little noise. It will make it so much easier for me to heat water for my morning cup of coffee, or instant soup for lunch.

The only choice!!,

One of the best features about this kettle is that the all metal interior is seamless! No metal stamped or welded together unlike other stainless steel kettles out there. Guarantees me of no leaking and no grooves to corrode or collect junk. The other great feature is that the entire lid can be removed leaving you the ability to insert your whole hand in to clean the interior. There are no sharp edges either! The flip open lid allows easy filling. I've been searching and researching for a long time, and this was the best $40 spent! My old stove top kettle is out in the recycling bin!

Just What the Doctor Ordered - Still good 1.5 years later,
By Antipkin (Queens, New York, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 8 Cup Cordless Kettle 40898
Update on Nov 30, 2009 - my kettle is now 1.5 years old - no problems and I'm very happy with it!!!
After many years of using Braun WK200W Aqua Express Electric Water Kettle - White, I have decided to switch from plastic to a glass or a stainless steel electric kettle, because of concerns over carcinogens possibly being released from plastics that are exposed to high temperatures. I could not find a glass electric kettle with good reviews, and after a long search I found this all-stainless-steel one. It was not that easy, as most of the stainless steel kettles have that water level indicator window, which is made of plastic. I'm not sure about the long-term reliability of this kettle - I see a few one-star reviews where it broke in a few months, so I'll just review the features of the kettle based on just two days of using it. The good: - The inside is all stainless steel ("just what the doctor ordered!") - COOL TOUCH = TRUE! As cool as my old plastic kettle! But that's only if you boil the water only once and not a few times one after another. After three consecutive boils, it becomes hot, but still not hot enough to get a burn from a brief touch. Also - after you pour the just boiled water out, the area around the pouring spout will become quite hot, as the outer and inner steel cylinders meet (probably are welded together) at the top of the kettle. - It looks nice on my kitchen counter - Boiled water does not have any smells or tastes, which, according to Amazon reviews that I read, many other steel or glass kettles on the market have. The bad: - The bottom of the lid is plastic, so the hot steam will hit it, condense, then fall back into the kettle, possibly dissolving some substances from the plastic, which will end up in my hot water, but at least there is less plastic exposure overall. They should have covered the bottom of the lid with a thin layer of steel. - The base makes the entre thing at least feel unstable: a. it is much smaller in diameter than the bottom of the kettle, b. the kettle could be easily tilted three ways sideways while the base remains flat on the kitchen counter and c. the base is made of thin plastic. - With the lid fully open in vertical position, it is still hard to pour the water into the kettle in it's front part, because of the mesh strainer that gets on the way. It was much easier with my Braun, where I didn't even need to open the lid at all. On this kettle, with the lid closed, the opening is quite small to fill it up with water. - Pouring spout is too wide. Pouring the water into a cup must be done slowly or otherwise the water will spread all over the very wide pouring spout and possibly end up outside your tea cup. I'm willing to live with all the above imperfections, because this is the only "all-stainless-steel" (and "cool-touch") kettle I could find and it does the job.

Wonderful item. Boils water in about 3 minutes. You can pick up the pot without the cord; thank you! Lovely automatic shutoff. I've bought two, for work and for home. PLEASE TAKE NOTE: read the instructions!
...After nearly a year after writing that review, I can tell you that both kettles are going strong, working perfectly. |
