this toy came broken where the mouthpiece part goes was all cracked - very cheap plastic toy - would not recommend. Also think the trumpet is just as junky. One of the keys does not work and is very cheap plastic. Very dissappointed.

I have to start off by admitting that I personally have not been exposed to this toy instrument. I purchased, as a Christmas gift, for my 4 year old nephew, whom lives far across the country from me. I can only recount and report as to the reactions I received.
First of note, is that it was the most unexpected gift he had received for the holiday. Many people were very surprised to find a toy that was educational and fun, and not of the typical child 'fad' toy that they so often get. And yet, he loved it. He carried it around all morning, tooting away to the beat. The second thought was that it was yet another annoyingly loud toy (the kind that go off in the middle of the night). However, I am told that it was not as loud as they had expected, and actually surprisingly pleasant. The tunes were enjoyable and still easy enough for the children to play. Overall, I am told it was a great gift and the children had a great time playing it. I am told that the product seemed, at first, to be a lightweight plastic and they were worried it would break. Although, upon using it, they discovered it was more durable than anticipated. I have not heard about and functional problems or damage as of yet, after much use. I might rate this toy higher, however, I personally have not been exposed to it and would not be comfortable doing so. Though I believe, for what it is, a 4 star rating is quite sufficient. As for the company I purchased this from, I will individually rate them elsewhere. I will follow up with more information as I receive it.

My 4 year old son adores this instrument and has taught himself how to play a few songs on it. Problem is, we're on our third one. The keys pop off and break very easily. I have looked everywhere for a similar though sturdier instrument and apparently there isn't one. So I guess we'll have to keep buying these things until he's old enough for a real sax. If your child is really interested in playing the sax, then this is a good toy but if he/she has a more general interest in music and instruments, I would look elsewhere.

I bought this as a prop for Lip Sync. It serves that purpose, but I would not recommend it for kids if education is the goal.

We got this for my 3 1/2 year old son and he has really enjoyed it. He can play real music with it and the sound is nice with a true to reality musical scale. The only problem with it is that it's not very durable. He accidentally sat on it and a key broke off 2 days after he got it. My husband was able to fix it by drilling a tiny hole into the 2 ends of the break and gluing a pin into the hole for support, but it's not quite perfect. All in all, a good version of a toy sax.

My 4 year old daughter, for some odd reason, began asking for a "pink and purple clarinet with flowers and sparkles on it" for Christmas. I didn't even think she should know what a clarinet was, but I think she might have seen one on Little Einsteins or something. I couldn't find a pink clarinet, but I did find this one. So I ordered it and when I received it I got some pink spray paint for plastic at the craft store and found some stick-on pink and yellow sparkly flowers at Walmart (in their craft section). I taped up the keys and painted it and then stuck on the flowers. It came out perfectly and she loved it. The best thing about this toy is that it really plays the notes and sounds like a real clarinet! I thought it would sound more like a kazoo and I was very surprised at the quality of the sound that comes out of this thing.
I highly recommend this product! |
