I absolutely love this CD! First, it has a song selection for every musical taste. There are covers from superstars like Stevie Wonder.. there is Janis Joplin.. there is Bob Dylan...and speaking of Bob Dylan - the "Tangled Up in Blue" cover is one of the best Dylan covers I have ever heard and I have been listening to Dylan for thirty years. The reason for my review title is that this album does not rely on computer generated effects, instead it has intricate vocals that had to take an extraordinary amount of time to arrange. I can't imagine the amount of time and effort it took to arrange, rehearse and record the many overlapping harmonic vocal tracks. It had to take a great deal of hard work that a listener like me is greatly appreciative of and that made me feel like my money was well spent. Oh and you get 14 tracks which is just about an old "double albums" worth of material. As far as the vocals go... the five vocalists on this record are our true "American Idols". Each and every one of them stands on their own as a vocalist ... yet they compliment each other vocally in the ensemble setting of the tracks. I respect all artists but I respect artists even more when they - instead of going on TV and crying about their misfortunes...put in an effort like Marquee Five does and let their work speak for itself: True Talent and Hard Work! Buy this CD, you will not be disappointed.

I was a huge fan of "Manhattan Transfer" when I was in my teens (and even sang briefly in a jazz ensemble myself), so I was very excited to give a 8 Track Throwback a listen.
I was already familiar with Marquee Five. I had the pleasure of seeing them perform live the previous year (their Mac-winning Kander & Ebb show) in NYC. They are a fantastic group of performers. It is amazing to watch them perform live, but what is especially notable about 8 Track Throwback is their ability to articulate the "sparkle" of live performance in a recording booth. 8 Track Throwback has an intimate, yet exciting vibe - you will feel like you are receiving a personal concert.
My favorite track is "Jolene", followed by "A Case of You" (with crystalline lead vocals by Vanessa Parvin.)
I also love the mash-ups in "An Honest House" and "Copacaba" - Adam West Hemming is a very gifted music arranger.
