5.0 out of 5 stars A Haunting Book
This is a beautiful and haunting book -- half narrative and half philosophy. Amy Fusselman delves more and more deeply into the nature of cause-and-effect and into the nature of time itself as she explores events in her past and how they continue to resonate into her present. It is lyrcal, it is powerful, it is even funny. This is not a simple "I was a Victim" tale --...

3.0 out of 5 stars Book Writing as Therapy?
Add this slime volume to Fusselman's previous work *The Pharmacist's Mate*, and you barely pass 200 pages. Well written like the previous, this book is again lost on me. I have no connection to the author's plight and I did not gain one from reading her books.

It is obvious that Fusselman has had a troubled life and is using her creativity to explore it and...

5.0 out of 5 stars Poignant, September 4, 2009

Amy's refreshing writing illustrates Tom Robbin's line that "its never too late to have a happy childhood". Her ability to notice and deftly write about some of the most tender (both good and bad) moments in her and her family's life made me swoon. Several times I had to put the book down just to catch my breath (& not break into tears on the subway) but to also savor the moments she was conjuring. It was that real AND poetic. Am looking forward now to reading the "The Pharmacist's Mate". kudos Amy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, with many great ideas & thoughts: a rambling exploration / pseudo-memoir, October 9, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 8: All True: Unbelievable (Hardcover)
A really entertaining book with many great ideas & thoughts: a rambling exploration / pseudo-memoir including her reflections on childhood sexual abuse ("I have a pedophile"), explorations of healing (counseling, followed by something like Reiki), seeing famous people in New York (including a Beastie Boy), monster trucks, and learning to ride a motorcycle. It's very short -- probably novella length -- and I suspect if you start it you'll finish it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow . . ., May 13, 2009
This review is from: 8: All True: Unbelievable (Hardcover)
I picked up this book on a fluke from a friend's office, and wow . . . First off I have to say that this book offered me the most refreshing outlook on parenting I have ever read. The philisophical complexities that are examined do being a mother justice in a way that I have yet to see anywhere else. The issue of the "healing" was way out there for me, and I really loved that. Because of the openness and strength of the author to talk about, in what can only be described as a completely geniune tone, I enjoyed, actually delighted to follow her on what I thought to be a back alley path to health. It didn't lessen my esteem for her, in fact I found the active nature of dealing with her past endearing.

Not only is the content refreshing but the form and structure is breezy at times, dense at others. Laughable and disturbing, this book is worth read.

It is obvious that Fusselman has had a troubled life and is using her creativity to explore it and come to terms with it. I just am personally finding nothing in her work. That said, she does have talent and I can't recommend against her books.

2 stars = Don't bother, clean your bathroom instead.
3 stars = Wasn't a waste of time, but it was time wasted.
4 stars = Good book, but not life altering.
5 stars = This book changed my world in at least some small way.
