Andrew Weil, M.D., a graduate of Harvard Medical School who has become a celebrity for advocating a "balanced lifestyle" of "body, mind, and spirit," provides energetic lectures advocating an eight-week program that will lead the viewer to a healthier life. Standing before an attentive audience, Weil is an engaging lecturer, relying often on commonsense analogies while avoiding medical jargon. As the director of the Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona's medical school, Weil doesn't discount traditional medicine. But he notes that our bodies can get "knocked out of balance," making them more susceptible to illness, and so a program combining exercise, diet, vitamins, and meditation can make us more resilient. As Weil puts it, "Resilience is our greatest ally, and it can be worked on." Though Weil's thought may seem somewhat ethereal at first, he presents his eight-week program very practically, beginning with tips on what to eat (and what to avoid), and proceeds to offer advice on exercise, how to handle stress, and related topics. Weil is intelligent and articulate, with a gift for delivering complicated ideas simply, and in this video he comes across as an engaging teacher. --Robert J. McNamara

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Understand Basics of Nutrition & Health, March 12, 2000
By
Greg Ryken (Fallon, Nevada) - See all my reviews
I have been in Health & Nutrition for over 20 years.

I have met and conversed with Dr. Weil in Seattle, WA., and I am a strong believer in his theories and scientific, factual information about food, eating, and the way the human body processes food.

I have been sharing this "way of thinking" for years. I find it to be the most basic way of explaining to people where they should start when wanting to improve their lifestyle.

So many diets, so many people telling you what, how, why and when to eat.

The information Andrew Weil shares can be understood easily by many, even the most resistant of your acquaintances, friends and family.

I highly suggest this video for anyone wanting to help themselves, and help others help themselves as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking, entertaining, down to Earth, January 30, 2000

This review is from: 8 Weeks to Optimum Health [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Dr. Weil is on the cusp of a new age of societal medicine that will be sweeping the Western industrialized world in the new millennium. His ideas are backed by his own experience and teachings. There is nothing out of the ordinary to his logic or content. A very enjoyable hour of viewing for the first sitting. I'm sure, like everything else we do, another viewing will bring out something we missed in the earlier viewing.
