The product was not as described.
It is actually a USB device, NOT a network card adapter.
However, reading the complete description you do find out that little tidbit.
I have been looking for some time (a couple of years) for a Linux compatible USB wireless adapter which comes with Linux drivers which is under $50.00 (CDN) and supports WPA.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very cheap, works as expected for a low cost unit.
Well for how cheap this is I can't complain. Driver installation on Windows XP was not fun though. The disc has several drivers on it and gives no hints as to which one works for your model. Mine was luckily the first one I tried out of 3, but since Windows XP wireless functions wouldn't get it to work, I ended up fumbling with it for a good while.

Maybe I...

I ran across this one which advertised Linux compatibility and at $5.00 I decided to take a chance.
I ordered two of them since I object to paying more for shipping (app. $10) than the product itself.
They arrived slightly before the shipper estimated in a large padded envelope (MUCH larger than necessary).
They were each in a small retail box which contained the USB device, a driver mini-CD and a small one page quick start document (which I totally ignored).
The Windows driver and configuration program were flawless. It was very fast and handled WPA1/2 cleanly. I was astonished at the quality and performance.
However, the Linux installation trashed my OS twice (crippling both my laptops).
I then read the documentation and the installation went well (under 30 minutes).
The documentation is unclear about which driver set to use (several come on the CD).
2009_0525_RT3070_Linux_STA_v2.1.1.0 seems to be the correct one.
The product is excellent (I was truly stunned by it actually working under Linux).
I am probably going to buy several more.
I STRONGLY recommend this for both MSWindows and Linux.
Half a dozen of these and a central wireless router connected to the 'Net would be a fast and painless way to hook up a household subnet.

PS I would have liked to know if it worked with Linux before I bought it, but since I was taking a chance anyway, things turned out much better than I expected.

Our wireless card gave out on one of our PCs. This was an incredibly easy solution... product worked great out of the box, just had to use the included mini-disk to install the drivers. Blazing fast and very easy. Fast UPS delivery via Amazon Prime.

I receive the product sooner than I expected, thanks to Amazon and supplier. I needed a wireless N USB adapter to connect a workstation in my bedroom, that is connected to my TV via an HDMI cable. The network setup was simple, and so far no regrets. Unfortunately it cause me about the same amount to ship the product as the cost, but at the prie of the USB adapter it was well worth it.

Maybe I did something wrong or had an unknown conflict, but eventually I just used the wireless software that came with the product. It is extremely poor, as I have to reconfigure it every time I reboot. Once it is setup it does work, although it is not very fast.

Luckily I use this only when I am fixing computers in my basement, and I don't require a reliable high speed connection. If you are using this for your personal or work computer, I would recommend spending more money for a nicer product. However if you have an application like I do, this is nice since it is so cheap.

Getting this to work with my computer nearly made me throw it out the window. It also gives me trouble sometimes when I remove it and then plug it back in. I leave it in my computer all the time now and haven't had a problem since.

This device, at only about $7 as of my writing this review, is able connect any computer to a wireless network without installing internal/expansion cards. Plus, since it is USB, it seems to suffer less from any electrical/timing differences between computers. I've seen numerous PCI and PC Card wireless cards that will work fine in one computer and will fizzle out in another. The USB interface largely mitigates this by providing that extra abstraction between the network device and the computer's low-level hardware.

However, it is not perfect. I have two issues with this device. First, *keep the driver CD*. The device has no real manufacturer site that I could find, and the generic drivers from Realtek (if I remember correctly) did not work. It is possible that Windows 7 has built-in drivers, but I wouldn't know.

Second, the drivers, by default, will install a 3rd party wireless management utility. It isn't integrated very well with Windows. It provides a lot of extra feedback about the workings of your card, but few people will need the extra information. Also, you have to perform some extra steps to get the internet to work in non-administrator accounts. You can disable the management utility and use the one built-in to Windows (which I recommend), but the exact way to do this isn't entirely clear at first glance.

Since this is such a generic card, I'm also guessing that it works well with Linux, although I have not yet tested it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works right out of the box...., January 17, 2012

...IF you read the instructions FIRST. Seems like alot of folks on here just opened up the package and plugged it in hoping Windows 7 would install the drivers for them and that would be that...well that was a huge mistake! The instruction sheet shipped with the adapter clearly states that you must first install the software off the mini cd that came with it BEFORE you plug in the adapter. If you do it this way, then you will find that the adapter works fine. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate, and it works just fine one room over from my N router, with 5(out of 5) solid bars showing for signal strength. It hasn't reset itself once, and always simply works every time I turn on my computer, no resetting necessary. The range isnt the greatest, but that is to be expected what with the unit being so small and not having an external antenna. But for the price paid, it's a fine N wireless adapter, if only you follow the simple directions. Highly recommended!

This product is junk. As soon as I added this to a winds 7 desktop to make it wifi my whole network started crashing. Bought a usb wifi card to replace this one and my network is fine. Don't buy this card spend the extra $10.00 and get something quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bargain - works with Windows 8 developer preview, November 16, 2011
This review is from: 802.11n/g/b Wireless Internet Wifi Network card adapter (Electronics)
Installation was straightforward - just be sure to read the included instructions. the driver CD contains drivers for 3 models; be sure to pick the correct one (pretty easy). As the title states, this adapter works on my desktop running Windows 8 developer preview. No issues so far.
