Book Description

0750657596 978-0750657594 April 16, 2004 1
The 8051 architecture developed by Intel has proved to be the most popular and enduring type of microcontroller, available from many manufacturers and widely used for industrial applications and embedded systems as well as being a versatile and economical option for design prototyping, educational use and other project work.

In this book the authors introduce the fundamentals and capabilities of the 8051, then put them to use through practical exercises and project work. The result is a highly practical learning experience that will help a wide range of engineers and students to get through the steepest part of the learning curve and become proficient and productive designing with the 8051. The text is also supported by practical examples, summaries and knowledge-check questions.

The latest developments in the 8051 family are also covered in this book, with chapters covering flash memory devices and 16-bit microcontrollers.

Dave Calcutt, Fred Cowan and Hassan Parchizadeh are all experienced authors and lecturers at the University of Portsmouth, UK.

2.0 out of 5 stars OK for beginers, January 15, 2008
This review is from: 8051 Microcontrollers: An Applications Based Introduction (Paperback)
This book contains the basic information on 8051 but is not very well written and largely is just summary, without added explanation, of data sheets. A bit specific to phillips 8051 variants also.
Somewhat too keen on TLA's ( three letter acronym's) I personally think saying CLM instead of click is just silly.
Appendices only have title at start so are difficult to find quickly without using contents page.

2.0 out of 5 stars Errors undermine a potentially good book, February 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 8051 Microcontrollers: An Applications Based Introduction (Paperback)
After having used the first chapter of this book in my CPE 301 class, I have found a number of errors. For instance, the book says that the 8051 command MUL multiplies 2 bytes and stores the 16 bit product across the two registers. Unfortunately, the order that the bits are stored is reversed from what the book says. This is just one example of the errors that I have found with the book. I do not look forward to having to continue to use it in my class.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice one to start with, August 7, 2004
This review is from: 8051 Microcontrollers: An Applications Based Introduction (Paperback)
I think this book is highly informative for beginners who struggle hard to apply their skill for a project.
