Great electronica album, September 28, 2010
This review is from: 808 Bit (Audio CD)
If you like Apoptygma Berzerk or Kraftwerk, then you will love this album, as it is a blend of the two bands sounds, executed nearly to perfection. My personal favorite tracks are Electropulse, 808 Bit, and the more down tempo Big City Girl. I've been listening to this album non-stop and I keep enjoying it more and more.

Fun, and a Little Kraftwerk-ish, October 21, 2004
This review is from: 808 Bit (Audio CD)
I finally decided to spill my precious clams and purchase 808 Bit. I am an Apoptygma Berzerk fan and I thought this would be a great way to see a sort of lighter side of Stephen Groth.
I am really enjoying this album as it is fun and very synthy. I just wish there weren't so many electronic vocals because I really like Grothesk's voice left alone.
After a couple of spins I feel that this album has a hint of some early Kraftwerk to it, but that could just be my opinion. As a whole though it is a good album and well worth the spilled clams.

808 Bit was originally supposed to come out March 2003. Then it got pushed back to April. I pre-ordered it April 4th, 2003. Today is April 6th, 2005 and after waiting for literally a year...all I have to say is...it was well worth the wait.
If Stephan would have kept evolving his music as he did, I wouldn't be surprised if this was the sound the 5th Apoptygma Berzerk CD would be like. (Although, since he did this kind of music as a different project I am very curious about the sound of the next Apop release.)
Basically, 808 Bit is electroclash done right. It sounds very 80s and very new at the same time. The beats are amazing. They'll seriously blow you away.
Lyrically... Well, there isn't very much here. This is more of a fun CD so, most songs just repeat the same stanza several times throughout the song. This CD won't move you emotionally like other Apop releases have in the past. Well..perhaps Invade My Heart and Big City Girl so a little bit. There's a little emotional appeal but, just plan on dancing to it.
There's a wonderful cover of Soft Cell's Bedsitter on here. I'm a big Soft Cell fan so, I was really excited about this track. VERY COOL!
My only complaint is that the tracklist isn't actually correct and I got kinda confused. As it turns out 6 is actually New Age and 7 is Bedsitter. Of course I'm happy they released it and didn't push the release date back again.
Overall, if the you like electronic music of any genre, GET THIS CD! You won't regret it. Stephan Groth is God...
