1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing
I am a d.j., so I thought I'd purchase this cd to play some of these songs to liven up a party. All I anticipate seeing is confused looks on people's faces as they exit the dance floor. So many of the mixes just don't go with the song. I'd rather listen to the originals. And I've heard better re-mixes, especially for Tainted Love and Always on Mind. And why re-mix...

4.0 out of 5 stars File Under "Guilty Pleasures.", March 2, 2003

The 1980s were cheesy enough in terms of bad fashions, big hair, and Reganomics, but "80's Engergy" takes things to a whole new level. Johnny Budz compiles playfully tacky dance remakes of classic hits of the 1980s, and the result is a qualified guilty pleasure. Collage speeds up the tempo of George Michael's "Careless Whisper" and turns it into a Eurodance treat, while Goldfinger gives an underground trance makeover of the Human League's "Don't You Want Me." But a couple of these covers are hilariously bad. Moogue performs the most unusual act of cruelty by butchering David Bowie's "China Girl," and DJ Silver don't cover "Always On My Mind" nearly as well as Pet Shop Boys did in 1987. Still, "80's Energy" is fun enough to make you bring out the skinny tie, the "Flashdance" soundtrack, and that Atari 5200 that's collecting dust in your attic.

The original is perfect.

3.0 out of 5 stars More Energy!, April 4, 2007

I dodnt regret buying this CD. It would have been better with more popular songs. The other thing that annoys me is when these types of CD's often do slow breaks in between some of the songs. Keep the energy level high!

4.0 out of 5 stars Dancing Shoes, July 13, 2006

These mixes still move the feet and shake the booty. A few are less than great but overall most still get into the groove. My only criticism is that most of these tracks are in the 3:00 - 4:00 minute range and too short for real dancing. However, Johnny Budz is a real mixer not some poseur so the tracks really segue rather than lame fade-outs and fade-ups. And, for the low price this album offered, it is a real bargain. If you recognize any of the tunes, then there will be a few that amuse. I am not going to review each track because they are all dance club versions and either you like or want such. Otherwise, just move on.

However, if you need some recommendations or a few tunes for your girlfriend to shake her booty then you will enjoy Here Comes the Rain Again, This Love Never Dies, and Moogue's interpretation of David Bowie's China Girl is awesome with the bass pumped. I wish this album had an extended dance club version because at 3:01 it is just beginning to rock. Hey Johnny, give us the real dance club gooves not the radio versions.

If you like 80s dance music or want a good album for a party, I promise you will play some of these tracks many times.

Ok, I'd admit it.. I love the 80s. 80's Energy grabs a bunch of great 80s songs that have been 1990s style techno remixed and then seemlessly put onto on a CD.. And it just fits.. Loved it, wish they'd do a volume 2.
