Dummies 80's CD falls flat., July 17, 2004
This review is from: 80's Pop Music for Dummies (Audio CD)
It's difficult to understand where exactly they are going with their 80's entry in their series of Dummies CDs. I can understand foregoing the obvious eighties giants, (Madonna, Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Pat Benatar, Cyndi Lauper, The GO-GO's, etc.)While the above mentioned did in fact define that decade they can pretty much be found in almost every compilation cd. Devo's "Whip it" and Yes' "Owner of a Lonely Heart" fit in nicely but the others don't. Many of the artists are right but with the wrong song choices. Why have "Don't Get Me Wrong" from the Pretenders when "Brass in My Pocket" would have been a better choice. Same with "Human" by Human League, why not include "Don't You Want Me". A-Ha's "Take on Me" is better remembered for their breakthrough video, the song alone doesn't cut it. I guess the same argument above can be made for the song choices as was made for the artist but it still would have been nice to hear "We Got The Beat", "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and "What's Love Got to do With it" on the same CD.
