This cordless shrub shear is a real time-saver. I find it light and easy to maneuver. Although I've pushed it to it's limits (with larger branches, tangled vines, etc.), it keeps on cutting without clogging. I like it so much that I have even thought of buying a spare unit in case they discontinue this one! Yes, you have to push a safety button to operate it. It's a little awkward at first, but now it's second nature. Get one - you'll love it!

Works best for trimming shrubs that are not too dense or with really hard stems. Works best if you are able to hold the top of stems and cut below -- and it's easier for cleanup too. Lightweight and easy to handle. Not tiring. The cordless feature is great. Great box for storing. I had no problem with the battery charging as others have. The charge lasted long enough for me to do the trimming. I think it lives up to its description.

One of the best tools that we have added to our shed! This is used by my mother and myself, we both have small hands, we have no difficulty in operating the Isio; weight is comfortable and switching blades is easy.
Just love it! Need another one!!

I have only used the grass shear (not the shrub shear), which was the main reason I bought the product. Works beautifully, and the battery lasts a lot longer than I expected before it runs out of charge. So far, seems like a product that I can enthusiastically recommend -- at least so far as the grass shear is concerned. The only complaint I have is that the plastic blade guard (to protect against accidental injury when stored away) is flimsy and broke quickly; a minor quibble. Expensive, but worth the price.

The SKIL 8120 was just what I was looking for! If you like to do fine clipping of your shrubs (e.g, boxwoods or topiary) this is the tool for you. Very easy to handle, sharp blade, just the right size. Bought it in June 2009 and the battery is still going strong in October. Beats trying to use a hedge clipper in tight spaces. In a nutshell, just love it! Well worth the money to me.

The shear is so underpowered that it can't cut anything thicker than a mechanical pencil lead. It stalls and you have to turn it off and wiggle the branch out of the cutters.

The on-off switch safety lock is awkward, especially when you have click it on and off every few seconds to clear the cutters.

There is no lock that keeps it running; you have to hold both the safety lock and the on-off switch continuously, which gets tiring very quickly.

If all you want to cut is grass, great. Otherwise run away from this tool.

This is a very useful little tool. ..I read all of the previous reviews before buying and went ahead and bought with a few reservations.

I can honestly say that all of the negative comments previously posted turned out to be false in my case.

The battery charges easily and has plenty of run time for most jobs. It does run down quicker when cutting heavy shrubs, but common sense dictates that such a job requires more power.

There is a safety switch to turn it on, but once on, you can release the safety switch and trim away.

I find the blades to be as sharp as one would expect, but I did get the grass shears into a bit of dirt and expect that to effect their longterm sharpness. I apply a light oiling after every charge.

I really like the charging station, and the lithium battery. ..There is a bit of a dilemma over what to do with the extra greasy head when not in use, but the light weight and common sense engineering far outweigh any weak points.

...All in all, a product worth recommending to others.

I use this trimmer to trim bushes and have no plans to use the grass cutting attachment. This tool does just what it designed to do...cut SMALL NEW and LIGHT growth. It is not designed for heavy cutting...which is no problem for me. I am very pleased with how it works. Some people have mentioned that they did not like the trigger safety switch...however I got used to it very quickly and find no problem with it.

My use for this trimmer is to keep up with the rapid light new growth on some of my small bushes. In Florida...things tend to grow while you watch them it seems. There are 115 bushes of all kinds in my yard...and not being physically able to take care of them completely any longer...it is necessary to call in the landscapers (which is not cheap) to maintain them. However...to keep the landscapers from having to come too often I got this trimmer to take care of some of the new growth...which is a weekly task here in the Summer.

Because this trimmer is so lightweight I can easily do that kind of work myself. Sure beats having to use those big hand hedge trimmers and I can do the same amount of trimming work with the Skil trimmer in LESS time that it took me to do with the hand hedge trimmer.

I have run the trimmer for well over a 1/2 hour with no discharge problem...and the battery usually fully charges in about 3 hours. The only thing I was a bit disappointed in is that it appears that the battery replacement (when needed) cannot be done without taking the trimmer to a Skill repair shop. However...it should last a long time and I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

Some factors influencing my purchase were the Skil name and the fact the battery is Lithium Ion.

I HIGHLY recommend this tool for light duty work.

This product is advertised as having a battery that has a 4-hour run time. I have used it and charged it full twice and run time is less than an hour. When I called Skil today and spoke with "Dan," he said the run time is 30 minutes, until I directed him to Skil's website. He tells me to use it and charge it 3-4 more times and it should achieve full charge (I doubt it, but will do as he directs and report back here). To use the product, it is necessary to simultaneously press the safety lock located on the side as well as the "on" button underneath the handle. This is very fatiguing to the hand after only 10 minutes of continual use.
