like another reviewer, i chose the higher tone (500hz and 600hz) piaa's because to me they sound better, or more unique, than the lower tone ones, which sound like a stock american horn.
i installed these on a jeep wrangler, whose stock single factory horn is anemic and dangerous, since it can barely be heard. the piaa's come with very clear instructions for installation. you simply match up one of 4 diagrams with your factory setup and then follow the simple steps in the instructions to wire them up.
you do not need a relay to install these. i did have to tap into my existing positive and negative factory horn wires, since i was going from one stock horn to dual horns. piaa provided the extra wiring to do this and the quality of the wiring and spade ends is excellent. i did have to go buy two female spade bits for the ends of the factory wires, since i had to cut those off the factory harness. crimping on new spade ends was not hard at all. the whole install took about 15 minutes and the dual horns fit perfectly in the stock location.
i am very, very satisfied with the piaa sports horns, in terms of both loudness and quality of the sound. i was a little skeptical because of their low price, but they really do deliver, and i think they are better than the more expensive hellas. they seem well-made and combined with the great instructions, i don't see how you can go wrong. highly recommend.
There are two versions of these horns: a lower pitched one that sounds like a typical American car horn (400Hz horn + 500Hz horn), and these horns which are slightly higher pitched and sound like a European sports car (500Hz horn + 600Hz horn). I found sound recordings of both horns online and decided that the sound of these horns would more fit the Prius. If you want a more traditional sound, go with the lower pitched horns.
Installation was very easy. I was able to install in the stock horn locations; no relays required. I ran the grounds to the mounting bolts. I now have no problem being heard on the freeway.
Although these were very easy to fit, I was disappointed that the kit came with no mounting hardware, relay, or wiring, not a big deal, but at the price would it have killed them to have included a couple of nuts and bolts?
Now the bottom line, how do they sound? Answer, great! They are as loud as the old "Bad Boy Air Horn" but they have a much better twin tone sound. Also, unlike the air horns you can actually "beep" these, which is great for getting someone's attention in traffic without resorting to a full on blast.
Finally, as these were being fitted to a Toyota Corolla I opted for the 500hz/600hz high tone, and it suits the car perfectly. They also make a 400hz/500hz which sounds like a typical American car, and a 330hz/400hz which would sound great on a truck.
I just spliced them in to the factory wiring, leaving my factory horn plus these installed. I was a dealer tech for 12 years, specialized in electrical and fuel systems, and ASE certified in Electrical. I see no reason to go through the trouble of relays etc. If you are just hitting these for short bursts, the amperage draw required, will not be enough to heat the wires, or draw enough to blow fuses.
At least not on my 2007 Acura TL..
Super happy with these…
I spliced the horns into the existing horn wiring.

Decently loud (more specifically louder than most stock horns), super easy to connect if you are slightly electronically and mechanically inclined. Read morePublished 1 month ago by Cosby Wood

Well, my factory horn was pathetic. It went, A beep. Not that I want a train horn or something like the Titanic but a little more authoritative would be nice. Read morePublished 14 months ago by DocHolliday
These are perfect for my 2015 Toyota corolla. The original horn on this car was a joke so it had to be replaced. Read morePublished 14 months ago by Mxa77
The sound is ridiculously low. I can barely hear myself when I honk. Then it cost me $300 to install it. On a Porsche Panamera you need to take down the entire front bumper. Read morePublished 16 months ago by Franck Dossa
