A trip to germany in 1982. A hill over looking wine country. Euro-bikers, tents, wine, and rain. I wake up in the mourning and hear this haunting, driving beat coming from the stage. I make my way up to the stage, i gotta get the name of this group. A German figures out what i want and i scrawl "Splif Oct funf funf funf funf" My friend says "thats 85555" So i find the record before i fly back to the US. It is one of my favorites. The first song alone is worth the price. OH? Whats it sound like? Euro-heavy-metal-pop-funk-ACDC-stoned-german-UB40ish. It sounds bloody great. So buy it, roll it, burn it, and enjoy it, before you can't get it anymore. PS. Don't forget to turn your volume dial up a bit more. Ah. That's better.

If you had all the Oasis-range , New Order(JD) and Kraftwerk-Computerworld/Trans Europe-express in your pocket, you really need this pocket.Spliff is the most innovative band of Germany after Kraftwerk and Can. Listen to 3 , Fandango and Guitarra Pura !!!

I remember being in high school when Spliff's 85555 album came out. I was young and impressionable and that album really had a lasting effect on me. I still own the original record but since over time it has been worn out quite a bit, I'm happy I now have the CD version of it. German teenagers had been starved for good music with German lyrics, because to this day, songs with English lyrics dominate the charts. Which is fine, of course, as there are a lot of great English-language songs. Anyway, I don't like the follow-up album "Herzlichen Glückwunsch" as much. Although I am glad Spliff did not try to make a carbon copy of the first album, the second one is missing the power of 85555. But for the price you pay to buy these two CDs as a set, you will definetely not be disappointed.

Spliff 85555 - Great!,

I lived in Germany in the early 80's and heard of Spliff from a wonderful girl I was dating. I was turned on at first hearing. They've been a favorite of mine ever since. The band broke up in 1984, but the four guys are still producing and making music, and their albums still live on. This is a really great German-rock/punk/psychedelic, fun CD. Great for parties, too!
