4.0 out of 5 stars It Dims the Light, But Not So Much
We bought these dimmable CFLs since using regular CFLs with a dimmer switch shortens the bulb life. The GE Energy Smart dimmable CFLs solve that problem. However, at their dimmest setting they're still fairly bright.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't do what is supposed to do
I used newest and most expensive dimmer but this bulb doesn't work. Intensity goes from 100% right down to 30% and then it turns off. While at 30% output it produces buzzing noise which can be noticed from few yards away. I am surprised GE produced such a horrible product.

Truly not dimmable, maybe 15% before it is gone - has to go all the way up then it's on, spirals down about 15% then OFF!

I can't believe this bulb is even on the market. The dimming function is practically worthless -- it is almost like having only two choices. As you dim the light nothing happens until you have almost reached the end of the dimmer switch. Then the light goes down in intensity. The light hums constantly, more so when dimmed. I installed this light and after one hour took it out and put it in storage in my basement. If this bulb is the cost of energy conservation, I don't think I'll conserve!

When I received the bulb it flashed once and never worked again. Amazon sent me a replacement. This CFL is supposed to work with dimmer switches..

The new bulb worked, but had some strange properties. This bulb will not dim, it changes slightly and then shuts off. I am using it in X10 remote dimming switch circuits. When used with the wall plug modules(AM 465) it works ok but will not noticeably dim, it just shuts off which is ok for me.

When the bulb is used with the X10 (PLW01) wall switch dimming module the bulb will not shut off. When the switch is switched off the bulb flashes slowly and never turns off.

This bulb is not suitable for most X10 circuits...

The color and brightness is close to a good 60W regular bulb.. I have several wall plug AM 465 modules I will use it in one of those. The AM466 module works fine with regular CLFs...

So I have to start a search for CFL dimming bulb that work with X10 systems...

I am not sure if I am to blame the bulb or the dimmer, but the bulb did not work with the dimmer at all. It worked in a regular light but with a dimmer it would simply never turn on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dimmable money saving bulbs, November 15, 2010

I have purchased these bulbs before and they are great. I use these bulbs in two exterior porch lites along my sidewalk, they stay on from sundown to sunup, I have those little cheapy light eyes in the sockets, regular light bulbs are dimmable but are used up entirely in 2-3 weeks, causing a constant changing of bulbs, and most energy saving bulbs will burn out in a few hours used in this application because they are unable to dim with the flickering that exists. These bulbs are amazing. These light bulbs have lasted over 2 years at a time and are used on average of 9 hours per night. I love them.

This bulb is FULL of mercury - they say it's just a little but they also want you to buy it! You have them in every light socket throughout your house even a little bit can add up to quite a bit. And if you break one of these things...be prepared for a 30 minute clean up. Read the box on what to do when one of these things breaks. If you have to leave the room and air out the room before you even can clean it up...then something is wrong with this product....and they just look so stupid too.
