This Author has a Stunning Career Ahead of Her!,
By Gadget Girl (Orlando, FL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The 8th Journal (Paperback)
Anyone can buy Danielle Steele's latest novel, but I really enjoy trying out offerings from new authors. I like the idea of catching a rising star! I purchased this book because the cover looked intriguing and the plot sounded interesting. I was not at all disappointed! The plot is full of twists, the ending does not disappoint, and the best part is the colorful, unforgettable characters. I hope there is a sequel coming soon!

A strong, and refreshing, book. The characters grab ahold of you from the start, and you can't help but get very involved in the story. And what an exciting journey Holly, and cast, take you on. All in all, a refreshingly pure, and solid, mystery that everyone will enjoy. This book will someday make an awesome movie.

21st Century Nancy Drew,
By J.K. (Prescott, AZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The 8th Journal (Paperback)
Wow! Is this the first of a 21st century Nancy Drew style series? This book is sure to please young readers! It's clever and imaginative, and keeps the reader guessing till the end. The heroine is just starting her first year of college in this mystery, and with her good-guy boyfriend she untangles the secrets hidden in the journals left her by the birth mother she never knew. Can't wait for the next episode!

Colorful characters and a plot filled with unexpected twists and turns make for an absorbing and entertaining novel. Although the main character, Holly, is a young woman of college age, the 8th Journal will appeal to readers of all ages, thanks to the well-written character development and clever plot. I am definitely looking forward to more books by Nicole Parris.

Review: The 8th Journal by Nicole Parris
Normally, I would not have read a book such as this. I am usually only interested in something that is hundreds of years old or out of this world. I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the end of the last Harry Potter book, and to compare the book to that on the back cover would usually rule it out straight away. But this book almost literally feel into my lap. So, I decided to give it a try. And I must say, I liked it. Up and coming author Nicole Parris is still wet behind the ears but what she lacks in formal technique she more than makes up for with her riveting plot and characterizations. The 8th Journal is about an 18 year old girl, Holly, who finds out not only that she is adopted but also that her mother was a world famous author of a children's adventure series and recently died. She must uncover a series of family secrets and follow in her mother's foot steps to finish writing the anticipated final book in the series. I found myself yelling to the characters on more than one occasion that this person was the stalker or that that person was related and such. The main characters unfortunately are fresh out of high school and do not understand how to think like they are in a mystery story. For this reason there is a cast of colorful secondary characters that come in and out of their lives to help them decipher the clues that ultimately lead to tales about the past and hidden treasure. There is never a dull moment. Every time one piece to the puzzle is revealed, two more mysteries take it's place. This high intensity ride does not, like some rollercoasters, have an abrupt and jarring ending but rather wraps up in a very satisfying conclusion. Not only did I think this was a great first book. I believe that with such creativity and excitement, we can expect bigger and better things from Parris in the future.

Spell binding action adventure,
By
This review is from: The 8th Journal (Paperback)
This is a thoroughly modern action adventure with the style of a true classic. Nancy Drew comes immediately to mind!! Intrigueing enough for older readers and appropriate for pre-teens, the cast of characters is well developed and the whole plot is one BIG mystery. The author has injected appropriate amounts of humor and morality. All together, a wonderful story in the "coming of age" genre.

Wholesome reading with pleasant surprises. Author is very creative in building scenes and characters. Love the strength and resolve of the main character and the romance and humor that is injected into this delightful mystery adventure story. Couldn't help but be amused and titillated at the romance of Holly and her childhood sweetheart in the midst of the puzzling events that they fall into. Always curious about what happens next. This extended (thank goodness I am my own boss:))and made my coffee and lunch breaks even more worthwile. Looking forward to the next adventure.

Nicole Parris has a great imagination and tells a story that keeps you wondering and wanting more. I loved it as an adult, but you could get this for any over 10 year old+ and they would enjoy the unfolding mystery and girl hero plot. I think this really would make a great movie too! Lots of action, great characters, up beat endings. I am waiting for the next one.
