Listening to this is like observing a tsunami coming at you in slow motion. It appears quiet and low-key until it engulfs you and sweeps you away with its impassioned and overwhelming power. And it doesn't leave you. You carry it around in your head and your heart and you want to keep it.

Heard this song first on one of the Shrek movies and just had to have it. Hard to find since it wasn't included on the Shrek soundtrack, but luckily I found out who it was by and was able to purchase it.

This is a haunting song that features a woman singing softly with a simple piano background, then a man (Damien Rice), and then sweeping strings tie it all together. The melody captures your ear, and I suspect I will be humming it quite a bit.

And... here's where I admit that I found this song through, um, watching Shrek 3. I heard it on the tv and immediately looked up the song and bought it.

That said, this song is pretty much the opposite of the in-your-face bawdy humor of Shrek. It was put in to convey pathos in a sad scene, and worked very well.

I personally can't get enough of Damien Rice. I love how this is such a sharp contrast to his other cd. Someone of the songs are the best songs to listen to when your mad (Rootless Tree) and some are just amazing composition wise (9 crimes). I would be very cautious in recomding this cd to some of my friends but many of my more artistic friends have found a place for Damien in their collections.

I've only recently discovered this artist, while in the meantime, he has apparently stopped recording. What a disappointment that is. His haunting melodies and vocals pull me right in. I love this song, and quite a few others of his, particularly with Lisa Hannigan. They have some gorgeous harmonies. For fans of hauntingly poetic melodies and lyrics, I recommend this one.

It's Damien Rice so you can't go wrong, but this defiantly is one of his best songs. If you have never heard of him and you are a fan of slower music, this is the artist for you.
