An amazing album that proves Kat Deluna's staying power in the music industry,
This review is from: 9 Lives (Audio CD)
At age 19, Kat Deluna has already made a huge splash in the music industry. Deluna, a classically trained opera singer, is the first Dominican crossover artist to make it big in the United States. A Latina girl with a Bronx flair, Kat is renowned for being a musical prodigy (she has a five-octave vocal range, after all!)
Now, with the release of her highly anticipated debut album, "9 Lives," Deluna has proven herself and her talents beyond everyone's expectations. The album is nothing short of perfection; led by the summer hit, "Whine Up," (featuring Elephant Man and Ivy Queen) "9 Lives" is a beautiful mix of strong beats, powerful vocals and salsa and bachata rhythms. Tracks such as, "Enjoy Saying Goodbye," and "Be Remembered" are beautifully written songs that excite true emotion within the listener. One of the best tracks on the disc is the bold ballad, "Love Me, Leave Me." Deluna executes a perfect vocal, and the lyrics tug at the heartstrings of anyone who has ever been hurt in the journey of finding true love. Every track on the CD is amazing, and I am thrilled that we can finally enjoy an artist who has the ability to sing effortlessly in both English and Spanish. Deluna, unlike Jennifer Lopez, can actually SPEAK the language, and thus she puts much more soul and feeling into her voice than Lopez did in, "Como Ama Una Mujer." Deluna's voice in, "Run The Show (Spanish)" "Como Un Sueño," and "Whine Up (Español)" is purely angelic. "Run The Show," is also sung in English, and "Como Un Sueño" is the Spanish version of Deluna's brilliant second single, "Am I Dreaming," a love song with a vibrant Caribbean flavor. "9 Lives" is one of the best albums of recent years, and Deluna is truly a power-player in the world of music. Keep your eye on Kat Deluna--she will soon claim her title as the Dominican Aretha Franklin/Beyoncé/Mariah Carey all rolled in one! Rihanna, watch out! You've got some tough competition.

One of the Best Albums I have Purchased This Year!,

I was anticipating the release of this album ever since I first discovered the track "Whine Up" 5 months prior to the release of "9 Lives". This album sure delivers! Kat Deluna showcases an incredible vocal range on this album, and really knows how to turn up the energy on many of the upbeat tracks. On slower ballads, such as "Love Me, Leave Me" her vocal talent truly shines (even singing acapella at the begining of "Enjoy Saying Goodbye"). What is really nice, is that she has made spanish versions for 3 of the tracks (which are better than the english ones in my opinion) which makes her even more special. This girl is really talented, she is a great performer/dance, and can still keep up on her vocals at the same time (which many singers cannot do). Production on this album is also realy impressive, and I agree, it's on point. Overall, it's nice to see some more of the latin styles of music being incorporated into this album. For example, "Bachata" is not ver common over in the western U.S. but it is represented here. Definately a must buy. I can't wait to see what's next from her!

A MUST BUY!!!!,

This Album.... WOW!!! Came out of no where! She has an incredible voice (and I mean incredible).. this girl's going to be around for a while. She ain't going no where. Folks who reviewed and said "she doesn't control it and blah blah" sound like they're full of their own self-importance. She has true talent! What's more is it is coupled with passion on every track. All songs are dancy, catchy, and fun (so you have to be into that) and this CD has not left my CD player since I popped it in. And I mean I am playing it over and over and over (and I'm not really one to do that) because you feel so good and enthralled listening to it. You can tell she believes in the music she put on here. This album is the album I wish I would make if I had any vocal talent. :) I hope you enjoy!

Unexpectedly Good! The best 19 year old pop (?) singer ever.,

"9 Lives" is the debut CD of 19 year old Kat DeLuna (around the same age as me). I found "Whine Up" to be a good enough song, and there was a hint of vocal talent in there, so I decided to buy the album. I kind of figured Kat DeLuna could sing, but definitely not this good. When I bought this CD, I never would've guessed that this would soon be a personal favorite of mind. I bought this CD with Rihanna's "Good Girl Gone Bad", thinking this would be the weaker of the two albums. Boy, was I wrong...
The album starts off with the intro. Here, Kat tells us that this is her moment, and she wants to share her talents with the world. The laugh at the end is devious, but kind of sexy in a way. At least to me. "Run the Show" is the first actual song of the album. Hot beat, strong vocals. This song definitely starts the album off to a great start. Kat does a really good job of not letting the loud beat drown out her vocals. Many music artists these days are having problems with that. Things slow down a bit with "Am I Dreaming?" This is one of the first songs where Kat shows off her vocal abilities. After a few listens, don't be surprised if you randomly blurt out "am I dreaminnnnnnnng?" "Whine Up" is the fourth track, and we've all heard that. It's a decent song, but the others are better in my opinion. "Feel What I Feel" is track number four. This is one of my favorites from the album. The production is nice, but the vocals are even better (which is how it's supposed to be). Once again, Kat's big voice prevents her from being lost in the beat. "Love Me, Leave Me" is the first "true" ballad of the album. Kat turns a potentially boring song into something really interesting. Her vocals grab your attention, and by the end of the song, you'll be left wanting more. "In The End" is another favorite of mine. The production is a little too similar to "Feel What I Feel", but that isn't much of a problem, for Kat is talented enough on her own and doesn't need loud production to bail her out. "All my life I've made excuses" is my favorite part of the song. Unlike most female singers, Kat doesn't play the victim here. In fact, she's portrayed quite negatively. "The more you're good to me, the more I try to get you to leave." "Love Confusion" is definitely my favorite song from the album. It's somewhat of a quiet song, but it's one of the few songs to actually sound different from the others. Kat's vocals are showcased again, and quite often this time. "Animal", the next track, is probably the overall weakest song on the album, but it isn't bad at all. The production sounds more like a remix of "Whine Up" instead of a new song, though the lyrics and vocals are (thankfully) different. "Be Remembered" is another really great song. I love the hook. The rapping isn't needed, for Kat's vocals are good enough to stand on their own. "Enjoy Saying Good Bye" is the last "true" song of the album. It's not bad, per say, but this is the song I listen to the least. The vocals are, of course, excellent, but the song as a whole isn't as interesting as the others are. The album ends with spanish versions of "Whine Up", "Am I Dreaming" and "Run the Show." They're nice, but if you've already heard them once before, there isn't really a need to listen to them again, unless you want to. OVERALL, this is an excellent CD. There aren't any bad songs on the album, though there are songs better than others. The production is consistent, though some of the songs sound like remixes of each other. Nonetheless, Kat DeLuna's vocals are amazing, especially considering how young she is. Furthermore, as she grows older, so will her voice. This woman is a powerhouse in the making, and I can't wait to see what she has to offer next (RedOne would be a fool to let this one slip by!). With the right promotion, Kat Deluna could be the next big thing. She already has the talent. Now, she needs the support. Those who are looking for entertaining music coming from a talented singer (which is rare these days), then look no further. Kat DeLuna may be young, but this CD is far from bubblegum (she sounds so much older than she is). Pick this up today! Favorites: Run the Show Feel What I Feel In the End Love Confusion

I hadn't heard the track everyone is talking about "Whine Up" but i've heard a lot of good things about the song. So i sampled it and was like yeah i'm digging on this track. So just based on that alone, i decided to go ahead and purchase the album. After only one listen through of 9 Lives, i can see, hear and feel that Kat DeLuna is a force to be reckoned with in the biz, no question. Style, voice, song selection help make this a debut that won't fall by the way side or be ignored. You can't ignore her cause she's here and 9 Lives just shouldnt be slept on in the least.
I can't front at all i don't understand Spanish. But i couldnt help but want to after hearing her sing Whine Up in spanish. I loved it and the other tracks that she sings in Spanish as well Como Un Sueno (Am I Dreaming) and Run the Show equally well done if not a bit better than the english version. I enjoy them both. I do a this is my favorite track every now and then. But i wont do that this time around because i'm feeling each and every track on the cd..for real. 9 Lives is one of the better released of 2007 so far. There might be some others later on in the year. But as far as i'm concerned Kat DeLuna still ranks up there. Purchase the cd its a show not to be missed. :)
