Format: Audio CD
After the relative progression of Achtung Bono and CSI: Ambleside (real pop songs, no less!), (Crimond) sees the Biscuits firmly back in insular mode; scowly and negative, very much This Leaden Pall territory.

And frankly, there's more here that's disposable than has been on an HMHB release for a very long time. The mid-album triumvirate of Excavating Rita, Fun Day At The Park and ...Stiperstones won't be remembered for long. But even at their most pedestrian Nigel has a comic laureates way with words and the highlights are as good as anything he's produced before.

Overall i'm slightly downbeat, as the whole thing is somewhat depressing: from drab and morbid art work; minimal and dull, to an overbearing creepiness on many of the songs. This one doesn't make me sing along or smile as much as i expected. And sometimes i do wish, just for one album, HMHB would pull out all the bells and whistles and give us that catchy, acerbic, well produced, nicely packaged, indie rock masterpiece they so ardently seem to want to avoid making.

But then, that wouldn't be HMHB, would it?

So, while nothing HMHB have done can be classed as bad, this is good but definitely not for beginners.
