5.0 out of 5 stars super for the exercise challenged...!
With a blown out knee and ankle, getting back into exercise has been frustrating. This book starts slow and easy and is very encouraging to get back into the swing of things. It starts VERY slow and easy (just 10 minutes a day for the first couple of weeks) so exercise veterans may not like it at all. Fabulous for the out of shape (out of shape for whatever reason)...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
This book is designed for the absolute beginner. It assumes you do no exercise, and gives you a daily goal/program every day for 90 days, gradually increasing both time and distance.

As I am not a beginner, this book offered me very little.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for couch potatoes!, May 21, 1999

This is an excellent way to get yourself up off that couch and outside, exercising. It is geared for people who are doing no exercising whatsoever. It certainly inspired me to get started walking for fitness.

4.0 out of 5 stars motivational emphasis, June 18, 2003
This review is from: The 90-Day Fitness Walking Program (Paperback)
Fundamentally a motivational book with the structure of a calendar. Designed to push and encourage for that 90 day period it takes to form a new better habit. Like walking. Like exercise.

Each day introduces a new idea, 2 pages per day of nice, simple, straightforward information. Not a hard read at all, but after it is over you learned something, but better yet may now find walking a habit.

Good beginner book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beginner's Guide, January 22, 2000

This review is from: The 90-Day Fitness Walking Program (Paperback)
This is a great book for those who want to start and stick with any type of walking program. It's also good for those who are sedetary and/or obese. I am not a beginner when it come to exercise, but walking was a little boring to me so I purchased this book as a motivational tool and now I absolutely enjoy walking. I would recommend this book for those of you who want to start a walking program for fitness or just for fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars From a former couch potato ..., March 25, 2000

The book by Mark Fenton and Seth Bauer was the first one to show me that I didn't have to be an athlete to start walking. Their approach is incredibly convincing: all you need is your own body and 10 daily minutes to walk yourself to successful fitness. I have been doing just that for almost a month now, and I feel much better already.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Fitness Book in the History of Time, March 30, 2005
This review is from: The 90-Day Fitness Walking Program (Paperback)
This book outlines a very readable, very achievable program that is easy to follow, and yet feels challenging enough to feel effective. It begins assuming you have never tried an exercise program before, and that approach is helpful and always boosts self-esteem.

Personally, I found this book perfect for me. I am nineteen and at college. I had mononucleosis for over a month. While I was recovering, I found that all my muscles had become very weak. I needed something to strengthen me again, and I browsed many exercise books before choosing this one. It helped me build good, healthy habits, and I do not feel like the exercise program is consuming my life, which is a good thing, as I am always very busy. I completed the ninety days mentioned in the title, and already I feel much stronger and healthier than I did when I began. I have lost weight and I feel like dancing a lot more than I used to. I wholeheartedly recommend this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars For A Trim and Happy Personna., May 6, 2005
This review is from: The 90-Day Fitness Walking Program (Paperback)
This is a three-month day-to-day guide to help you lose weight (or you could try the South Beach diet, only this is healthier), strengthen and tone your muscles, be healtheir and stronger, and add years to your life as a consequence.

On day One, you start out with a ten-minute walk by merely walking five minutes, turning around and when you get home, your first workout will be complete. Pace yourself and go slow in the beginning. Try to increase in speed as it does help your heart to put a little 'good' strain on it. It takes discipline, perseverance and the desire to do something positive for your own health and well-being.

As you pick up the pace, it burns the calories and gives the heart a more complete workout. But do not overdo, or the stress can be harmful and cause heart palpatiations. Use good judgment; no one can feel how the exercise is affecting you but yourself.

By day 75, you are walking for 25 minutes. This book guides the participant through the routine and suggests that you find out what's right for you. Don't do anything in excess: exercise, eating, drinking, or trying to increase the walking speed too swiftly.

After you reach the three-month goal, and stuck with it, you will have realized the healthful benefits and 'rejuvenated spirit' that regular, daily activity brings to your life. I had my own personal trainer, Vic, for a month, and he taught me the leg and balance exercises I needed to personalize the routine. With this book, you move at your own pace but do try to keep up day-by-day. It will be worth all the effort and sweat in the end.

Mark Fenton has experience with the Olympic Training for Racewalking and is senior editor for 'Walking' magazine. Seth Bauer is 'Walking' editor-in-chief, and won a bronze medal for the 1988 rowing team and a former world-champion rower. They make a good team.

5.0 out of 5 stars Working for me!, August 20, 2000
This review is from: The 90-Day Fitness Walking Program (Paperback)
I bought this book needing to get fit and loose some weight after nearly 3 months in bed with a back problem. I am now a little more than halfway through it and it is working well. Combined witha healthy diet I am losing weight. The exercise is also giving me more strength and stamina for my everyday life. I can now go out for a day with my husband without having to call a half after a couple of hours and be taken home.

Worth twice the price!
