5.0 out of 5 stars "Mi Tierra" Part 2 - She finally did it!
For years, I have waited for Gloria to make a sequel to her smash early 1990s classic "Mi Tierra" (the best Spanish language album in existence, according to me). Who could forget that album, and song after beautiful song that still resonate after all these years - "Si Senor" and the absolutely breathtaking "Con Los Anos Que me Quedan".

3.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful cultural phenomenon, but the amplitude of sound is way to high, and is distorted.
The music on this disc is a wonderous cultural phenomenon. We find congas, lead female vocal, piano, vocal chorus, violin, and brass. FIVE STARS for the music on the album.

In my limited experience with Cuban music, I have found two other albums that can match this one, in terms of authenticity in sound and ability to command sustained interest and...

5.0 out of 5 stars "Mi Tierra" Part 2 - She finally did it!, September 19, 2007
This review is from: 90 Millas (Audio CD)
For years, I have waited for Gloria to make a sequel to her smash early 1990s classic "Mi Tierra" (the best Spanish language album in existence, according to me). Who could forget that album, and song after beautiful song that still resonate after all these years - "Si Senor" and the absolutely breathtaking "Con Los Anos Que me Quedan".

"90 Millas" is more of a return to form for Gloria, and outdoes all her previous CDs from the late 1990s. At one point, the native language albums from Estefan were not at all inspiring or interesting, and seemed to insult the memory of "Mi Tierra". However, when I first heard "No Llores" I knew this was the return of Gloria in a big way, and Im glad to report that the entire CD has the very Cuban, carnival feel that some of the upbeat tracks on "Mi Tierra" did. Remember "No Hay Mal"? Well, this CD has LOTS of songs just like that, so you know what you're in for.

If you liked her last album, the widely appreciated "Unwrapped", you will love this. Its three times better, and quite an achievement. Also, if you know anyone who loves "Mi Tierra", this would make a perfect gift for that person. If you're Cuban, you need to obviously own this immediately. I'm so glad that Gloria is embracing her Cuban roots without any pretense.

Five Stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars I get accused of only reviewing.........., March 14, 2008

....albums by gorgeous blondes. That isn't true, but here it would only be half-true; Gloria isn't blonde. This is an absolutely great album by a singer who proved her worth long ago; I don't know that she's ever sung a bad note.....

This album of what, to me, were unknown songs will appeal to two fan bases; [1] fans of Gloria [2] fans of Cuban music, of which we have plenty, as Cuba is only "90 Millas" away. It was a thoroughly enjoyable listening experience. If you can understand Spanish, you'll like it even better.

Gloria Estefan is a fabulous singer who, here, benefits from great back-up, and engineering. If you have any interest in Gloria, or this genre of music, don't miss it.

I'm not an Estefan fan in particular - but I love Cuban music and saw her perform on the Today show - impressive. This cd is absolutely wonderful - very emotional for me - heart to heart material. What a band! Viva Cachao - for just one.

This has got to be one of the best CD's Gloria has made. Loved it so much, that I bought one for my mom. The Spanish melodies are wonderful, and they remind me so much of Cuba (I left 44 years ago). Thank you Gloria, once again, you have done it! Lilly G., Santa Clarita, CA

If you enjoyed Mi Tierra and Abriendo Puertas, you will love Gloria Estefan's 90 Millas - warm, nostalgic, yearning, danceable - it hits all the beats for me, a child of Cuban immigrants.

Gloria and Emilio Estefan, her husband and the record producer, were able to include great performances by the very best interpreters of traditional Cuban music. This record is a must buy for those who love Cuban music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful & full of great rhythm., October 1, 2007

I am really surprised at the number of bad reviews on amazon regarding this CD. If you don't like Gloria, then obviously you're not going to like a Gloria Estefan album. In my opinion, this album is EXCELLENT, and definitely a high-quality latin dance album. There's an authentic flavor to the rhythms and sounds in each track.

With comparison to current trends in the salsa/merengue music world, it retains a more classic or traditional style, and for the most part could have probably been recorded in the 1960s before tech-ed up remixes were around. The only exception really is in the remix of "No Llores"...which is a bonus track on some versions of this CD.

If you liked "Mi Tierra," I'd safely bet that you will LOVE this album. It has great tracks that, if she had released this and Mi Tierra together, they would transition almost flawlessly back-to-back. The feel and the rhythms have that same flavor of Mi Tierra, with a little less violin/classical strings. The CD is very heavy on its Afro-Cuban/Cuban roots, so it's definitely a great CD to partner dance to.

A side note to the review that cites all of the other artists from other countries...that's nice, I'm glad you have an opinion. However, don't think you can speak for all of Latin America (myself included). Btw, Hector Lavoe is from Puerto Rico (/New York...one of the birthplaces of Salsa), so I don't get the whole Peru tie-in...and you kind of left out Celia Cruz (= BIG DEAL) among many others (Tito Puentes, Johnny Pacheco, and the list goes on). Gloria & Emilio also produce tracks for many of today's popular artists, Shakira included. They're kind of a big deal in the Latin music industry bro...sorry, but you're being ignorant to criticize Mi Tierra and Gloria like that w/o taking into consideration their contributions to the world of Latin music and how they've helped spread the Hispanic musical heritage across the globe.

While my spanish is limited - my adoration of Gloria is not, she makes you want to get up off your a** and dance with these great tunes! From start to finish she has put together an cd of great songs, great guest musicians, and while it's totally in Spanish - I don't care - it's great music and that is what counts....KUDOS to you Gloria and Company! Me gusta mucho y gracias!

For months XM radio has been playing "No Llores" with a salsa tune and now that the album is out, it's in cha cha cha. It's a good album, but could have been excellent!

I was visiting Cuba and I wanted to introduce my relatives to Gloria Estefan. I also wanted them to know that she and a group of cuban musicians in USA are making good latin music.
