More About the Author

Meryl Ann Butler is an artist, author and educator who has been actively engaged in employing the arts as stepping-stones toward joy-filled wellbeing for the past three decades.

She is the author of the bestseller, 90-Minute Quilts: 15+ Projects You Can Quilt in an Afternoon (Krause, 2006), which she wrote as her "healing-through-creativity" response to 9-11. In it, she quips, "They don't call quilts 'comforters' for nothing!"

Trained in traditional drawing and painting by master of realism, Harold R. Stevenson, who was a student of Norman Rockwell, she was running her own art school when she took her first quilt class in 1982. Meryl Ann's passion for art and color was suddenly married to fiber and texture as she dove headlong into the world of quilting.

Back in those days, quilters still cut strips with scissors, as the rotary cutter had only been recently introduced. And she remembers the exhilaration she and her quilter friends felt when pin dot fabric was introduced in an exciting and radical new style: with colored dots instead of the standard white!

We've come a long way, baby!

Meryl Ann's fiber artwork has been featured in over 100 magazines and periodicals including Newsday, and a wide variety of trade publications.

Her quilted fiber art is in hundreds of collections around the world, including those of His Holiness, the late Swami Satchidananda, the Hon. Nelson Mandela, Cathy and Ed O'Neill, Dr. Caroline Myss, Dr. Barbara King, Dr. Norman Shealy, the Hon. and Mrs. Dennis Kucinich, Harpo Productions, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Productions, The Findhorn Community (Scotland), City Hall (Moss, Norway), The St. Petersburg Peace Committee (Russia), School 119 (Odessa, Ukraine) and the University of Peace in Costa Rica.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Beginning Quilting Book, May 12, 2007

Meryl Ann Butler uses every trick in the book to complete a beautiful quilt in the least amount of time. While an intermediate quilter could probably complete a project in an afternoon, a beginner could easily complete a quilt before they got bored or frustrated.

I lurve this book because it shows that a simple pattern can product a lovely result. It certainly will be my go-to book for baby quilts.

Projects include pillow covers, baby quilts, lap quilts and wall hangings. All of them are made from squares. The majority of projects are small enough that you don't have to worry about piecing together a backing. Great addition to my quilting library.

5.0 out of 5 stars 90 Minute Quilt, January 9, 2007
This review is from: 90-Minute Quilts: 15+ Projects You Can Stitch in an Afternoon (Spiral-bound)
This is a great quilt book for beginners or seasoned quilters! Lots of great ideas and fun book with a spiral binding allowing the book to lie flat when open. The 6 inch squares are great for adding your machine embroidery. Making it as fancy as you like with lace, velvet, or cotton. It can be made with simple squares or embelish, embelish, emblish. Lots of fun. Trish in AZ
