From the Inside Flap

Get a glimpse of heaven On the way home from a conference, Don Piper's car was crushed by a semi that crossed into his lane. Medical personnel said he died instantly. While his body lay lifeless inside the ruins of his car, Piper experienced the glories of heaven, awed by its beauty and music. Ninety minutes after the wreck, while a minister prayed for him, Piper miraculously returned to life on earth with only the memory of inexpressible heavenly bliss. His faith in God was severely tested as he faced an uncertain and grueling recovery. Now he shares his life-changing story with you. 90 Minutes in Heaven offers a glimpse into a very real dimension of God's reality. It encourages those recovering from serious injuries and those dealing with the loss of a loved one. The experience dramatically changed Piper's life, and it will change yours too.

I loved the 2 chapters on the author's experience in heaven. But that is all I loved. I wish he would have written more about the other realm. But the truth is, I don't think he had more to say than what he wrote in those chapters. Now don't get me wrong. They are 2 amazing chapters. But the rest of the book is all about the author and his struggle to regain his health after the accident that caused him to have the NDE. I have my own health problems to occupy my mind so I found this part of the book to be a big yawn.

I can only give it a 5-star because there's nothing wrong with the book. I just didn't read the listing carefully and didn't notice it was a Leader's Guide. I had the actual book at least 4 times before, but it's such a good book, I keep giving them away, then buying a new one to always have one on hand.

I found this book in one of my patient's rooms. (I am an RN) I started to read it to her every chance I got to comfort her. (she was dying of cancer) This book has helped so many who has suffered a loss from a loved one. I buy it and tell them to read it, then pass it on to someone who is suffering a loss of a loved one. It's an excellent read of a preacher who suffered a harrowing car accident and give his account of the events as he died... you will have to read the rest. I am not an avid reader, but this book captured my attention. I have purchased it more than once.

Love this book. The only reason I even got it was because I am an EMT and it had an ambulance on the back but when I started reading it I could not put it down until I was done. It really moved me and I think I got everyone in the family a copy of it that year for Christmas! Very eye opening.

I read this book on a highly recommended review from my best friend. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. I had an expectation that this book would include a lot of information about what the author saw in heaven, experienced during his journey, and his reaction to people or things that he learned there. Instead, he spoke of his injuries and more about the process of recovery. Although this might have been equally as important in the process, I think that readers want to know more about the unknown - heaven.

If the author incorporated more of the actual experience instead of his thought process and use of prayer, it would have enlightened the book more. I am not religious, and I felt like this was a plea for everyone to join in a following.

In this book, the Rev. Don Piper writes of his being mangled and crushed in a terrible auto accident, and of his long, painful recovery. He was sustained by his faith and by the loving support of family, friends, parishioners and fellow clergy. It is an inspiring part of the book.

He devotes only a few pages to his perceived Heavenly experience, but relates how many others told him that his description of what he saw renewed their faith in Heaven and alleviated their fears of death.

That said, was it evidence of Heaven? No. Is a dream evidence of another world? No, although it seems another world. A dream, or even the sensations perceived during near death is evidence only that the sleeping, or dying, mind is capable of great imagination and imagery and sometimes amazing realism. Think of your own dreams, the detail in some of them, the amazing events of others and the bewildering sensations.

Many people have reported that while technically dead, they experienced great, bright light and an overwhelming sense of peace, love and harmony. They meet dead beloved friends and family, even pets in Heaven and all embrace in joy at being reunited. So it is in Rev. Piper's book. He even reports hearing Heavenly music, hymns of praise to God. These reports seem to be remarkable, vivid and ecstatic dreams, but just that - dreams. Perhaps the dreams of the dying, for whatever reason, are especially vivid and spectacular. It is certainly a different physiological state from merely be asleep and dreaming

At the beginning of Chap. 2, he writes of his arrival to find a joyful, exhuberant greeting committee of loved ones who have passed: "I became aware of a large crowd of people. They stood in front of a brilliant ornate gate...." He mentions the gate a number of times.

My husband and I both enjoyed reading this book. We will keep it to read again someday, hopefully aloud to the children in the future. We believe in Heaven and this book is a great example of Heaven being real to us. Any in flux of believing in Heaven should read this book.

Mr. Piper had a horrific automobile accident, his pain was/is horrific. But, the title of the book is "90 Minutes in Heaven" he talks about it throughout his book but he never tells about it.... He should have title the book "I had a horrific car accident" My objection is as a Christian, I would be telling everyone, and would have included it in my book. The book is being sold under "false premise" hes a wonderful speaker, writer, but tell the story after all that's what God wanted him to do.... Amen
