Poor quality CD; useless software., October 24, 2008
This review is from: '90s Rock Guitar Play-Along: Volume 6 (Guitar Play-Along) (Paperback)
What could have been rockingly great was foiled by careless mistakes.
The CD has terrible sound quality, with a very loud crackling distortion that makes it nearly unlistenable in some sections. I suspect some kind of simple screw-up during mastering; but I suppose I might have received a defective CD. I have not had this problem with other Hal Leonard play-alongs.
The bundled "Amazing Slow Downer" software simply doesn't work on my rig. It locates the CD, but fails to detect any songs on the disc. Without the ability to play songs it's completely useless. Even without the ability to actually use it, from the cluttered user interface it looks like typical "get what you pay for" bundled junkware.
At least the printed sheet music is fine, and I learned to play some rocking tunes. Thumbs up for grunge, thumbs down for not getting what you pay for.
