4.0 out of 5 stars Essential reference for Porsche 912 restoration.
This is an outstanding reference for anyone interested inrestoring or researching a vintage Porsche 912 or 911. I found thisbook to be quite good with respect to details about the trim andinstrumentation of early 912s...

I would have rated the book five stars if color photography had been incorporated: The text and informational portions of the book certainly deserve...

This book does have quite a bit of information but it could use much more. In some areas the author needs to be more difinitive ("most likely" doesnt cut it when you are going for a stock restoration). The photos & reproductions are only black & white and fair to poor quality at that. There should be much more photos coverning variations (seats ,...

5.0 out of 5 stars Restoring a 911? This is essential., January 8, 2001

Part of the adventure that is restoring an early 911 is coming to terms with the often inaccurate and conflicting information available. The fact that during the mid-60s the Porsche Factory was geared less toward delivering an absolutely predicatble and consistent product doesn't help either.

The fact is, when attempting to restore an early car to original you're going to have to believe somebody, and basically this book is the Gospel.

True, the next edition really deserves colour photography (for that try "Original 911") -- but this book is really the most accurate assemblage of early 911 data I've found.

If you buy this book you have no excuse but to do a great job of returning your Porsche to it's beautiful, pristine and authentic state.

So buy it.

The book could have been formatted a bit better for easier use and reference, but it certainly contains a lot of useful information. In restoring my '67 912 it has been valuable in such areas a interior appointments, body details, and manufacturing dates. In an update edition paint chips and more year-by-year photos would be of help. Anyone bringing one of these beauties "back from the dead" should have this book and just plain Porsche fans will find it interesting.

In some areas the author needs to be more difinitive ("most likely" doesnt cut it when you are going for a stock restoration). The photos & reproductions are only black & white and fair to poor quality at that. There should be much more photos coverning variations (seats , materials etc). There definately needs to be a color section especially concerning paint colors (what good is it saying the car came in albert blue, glacier blue and adriatic blue?). this is a good book but could use a new version and at the price its kind of thin at 100 pages

heaps of photos and a simple read, but would be better if the pics were in colour and larger in size. however there is so many different examples of 911's and 912's they cover in this book and era, it would be hard to photograph and describe them all.

2.0 out of 5 stars not up to date, January 16, 2011
This review is from: The 911 & 912 Porsche: A Restorer's Guide to Authenticity (Paperback)
This book is written in the old-fashion-style and is not really up-to-date. It would have been switched out 35 years ago if it had been a schoolbook.
The cover does not say it only covers early 911's, even though it only covers up to -73.

This review is from: The 911 & 912 Porsche: A Restorer's Guide to Authenticity (Paperback)
As a first time Porsche owner/restorer, this book gave me excellent references for locating model year differences. I was educated and entertained while reading this book and recommend it both prior and after to buying your early model year Porsche 911 or 912. Photographs were definitive and accurate with part number nomenclature demystified.
