This is one of hottest manlove books I've ever read. And it's not just M/M. It's M/M/M. Yes, *three* sexy men in love, having sheet-scorching sex...not to mention a sweet, tender, and surprisingly believable three-way relationship. A fireman, a doctor, and an EMT. It just doesn't get any hotter than that. When you do read it, make sure you have a bucket of ice and a change of clothes handy. Better yet, find your own sexy fireman or doctor to play with. :)

Okay, enough about the sex. The sex is insanely hot, but what really stands out to me is the chemistry and the realistic presentation of a working threesome of men. It's rare for an author to be able to write a love story between three men that's not just erotic, but actually believable. This story makes me believe that such a relationship is entirely possible.

The men...ohhh, the men...they are strong, sexy, sensitive, and completely wonderful. I just can't find a negative word to describe this book or its characters.

I will definitely read this one again. It's a keeper. More brilliant M/M romance by Chris Owen.

5.0 out of 5 stars At last, a truly romantic threesome, July 15, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 911: Volume 0 (Kindle Edition)
Okay - this one surprised me. I don't usually prefer threesome romances because I never quite feel like the romance is equal for all three men. However, I was looking for another title for my iPod kindle app, and some strong reviews finally convinced me to buy it. Some of the first M/M romances I read were Sean Michael's Jarheads series. Rig and Rock were a great couple, who invited Dick to join them for a lust-filled night. The next chapter, he moved in. There was no build-up, I never felt like the relationship was built on anything other than sex. Thankfully, this story built a true romance.

Scott is a doctor, and Drew is a firefighter. Drew invites Scott to be his roommate when he learns Scott is in need of a place closer to the hospital and Drew needs extra help with the cost of having a home. The two are obviously attracted, but don't immediately become a couple. I liked that. Scott has some issues from a former relationship, and Drew isn't sure it's a good idea since they are already comfortable as roommates. Naturally, they do get together, and the author gives a hint of their threesome to come by having the topic come up after Drew sees a threesome, with 2 women and a man, who are happy (despite their home having caught fire). The two of them actually discuss the idea; could it work? Should it happen? How would they feel if it ever came up? However, it doesn't happen right away. About half the book is the development of Drew and Scott's relationship. How they handle their heavy, shift-driven schedules, the introduction of their parents to each other, insecurities in a new relationship, poker nights. It's all here, and very real. Oh, and lots of really hot explicit sex. This is definitely erotic romance, but the romance isn't overshadowed by the erotic.

Enter Eric, who is an EMT. He's become a regular at poker night. He needs to find a new place to live after his roommate gets married. He's already attracted to Scott and Drew, but isn't sure if either is available (or even gay). They see a friend in need and invite him to move in, when he learns that they are indeed a couple. He's not sure he wants to stay since he knows they are happy together, and he doesn't want to intrude. Meanwhile, Drew and Scott are both attracted to Eric as well. Scott becomes troubled by this because he isn't certain that Drew would really welcome a third, and would he be upset that Scott would? And, how will their families react? The angst for all three men is very believable as they work through it all.

I think what really worked for me here, that I haven't seen before, is that Drew and Scott become good friends with Eric first. Though they are all attracted to each other, they don't jump into bed immediately with another guy just out of lust or "to play." They build Eric into their life slowly; they learn about each other as time passes. I wasn't thrown a curve ball since I could see the love developing. Owen also took the time to show how the men relate to each other when they aren't all three together: Drew and Eric, Scott and Drew, Scott and Eric. This is an important point because it illustrates the equality I never found in threesomes until now. Overall, I enjoyed this romance very much and highly recommend it.

Re: the Kindle version. I've noticed reviews for some Kindle books sometimes mention problems with formatting, or type. This looked perfect to me. It scrolled easily, the chapter breaks were smooth and the text clear. I have quickly fallen in love with my iPod Kindle app.

3.0 out of 5 stars Engaging Beginning...Wonderful Midpoint...Downhill From There, July 11, 2010
This review is from: 911 (Paperback)
Before I begin my review of this novel, I first must state that I am not any good at reviewing novels so I will not even try...I will just state my opinion. And I should say out of fairness to this post, I do not understand from life history, how it is possible to have a LONG term 3way loving relationship where all partners exist EQUALLY in their relationship over a period of decades. It takes a great deal of effort and much love and much compromise to keep a two way love affair going for a lifetime and by adding a third person into the mix, pain will be the result. With that in mind I loved the first two-thirds of this novel as we were introduced to and grew with the two main characters. I could not put 911 down and when I had to leave it, I could not wait for my day to end so I could resume reading. But then, the third character enters into "the fold" and for me the novel crumbles. Even if you are not prejudiced against 3way life long love affairs, 911 turns into a porn "read" once Eric enters into the love relationship...just endless sex scenes after another...became so monotonous as I quickly scanned the pages hoping to find a plot to latch onto...never came...final pages were just another graphic sex scene. After finishing this novel, I was so disappointed...had such great promise for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, October 7, 2009

This review is from: 911 (Paperback)
This book was absolutely fantastic! The story was realistic (enough for me, anyway), the characters were believable and likable, and the sex was HOT.

Drew, a fireman, needs a roommate. Scott, a doctor, needs a place to live. Perfect, right? Several pages of sexual frustration later, Drew makes the first move and they become a couple. When EMT Eric also needs a place to live, Drew and Scott offer theirs, and (once more after much tension) they become three. Other complications get thrown in, but I won't go into detail. There is a fair amount of sex, but it doesn't rule the story. These guys are really in love with each other, and the story is about them and their lives, not what they do in the bedroom (or the shower, or the living room).

Beautiful story. The ending was a little bit predictable, but hey. Major complaint is the sheer amount of errors, both typographical and grammatical. There are a lot of them, so if you're someone who is bothered by that be prepared to do some serious overlooking or mental correcting.

But overall, fantastic read. I've already read it twice, and have just started it for the third time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Characters Should Have Different Voices, January 30, 2010
By
This review is from: 911 (Paperback)
This book is, in a word, pathetic. All three main characters speak with an identical voice. They all say such deep things as, "Want you." "Need you." "Love you." Three people who all omit the pronoun "I." When events take place bringing in parents, what do you read? Parents of two different men who speak in the same manner. It is difficult to read this book because of getting so caught up in the same dialogue taking place over and over and over again that even the sex scenes become something to scan read because it is virtually identical to every scene before it.

People have their own and unique voices in speaking. This author has not given each man his own voice. Not only that, each of the three men has the very same, identical, set of emotional needs and weaknesses. Identical.

If your intent is to read a book simply for graphic sexual encounters, this is your book. Five pages can be taken up with one encounter of sex while one's experience in a burning building in which he is injured ... far less than five. Hospitalization with severe injuries, a couple of pages.

Resolution to conflict? Key to believability! How is every conflict in this novel resolved? Anal sex seems to cure parental rejection, loneliness, back pain, drug addiction, fears of being left, fears of failing with work, and fears of death!

For anyone to view this book as believable is beyond absurd! That this thing was published is an insult to the industry. It might qualify as the screenplay for an extremely cheap pornographic movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars A msut read!, December 28, 2011
This review is from: 911 (Kindle Edition)
I loved this book! I loved strongly characters, which were vulnerable sometimes, but never weak. Especially Eric. Of course the sex was hot and I truly enjoyed how their story, such a rare relationship and their struggles, were told in a realistic way. What these characters shared was a deeply loving relationship and it was written excellently, with the right amount of humor, tenderness and seriousness.

I've read a lot of Chris Owen's work and will read more but this is not a favorite of mine. I found the men's voices to be too similar, and their characters blurred. Each man felt more like a place holder than a fully fledged character, which is not Owen's usual problem, usually everyone is crisp and clear. There was no bdsm here, just 2 guys who eventually become 3 guys... their family feel like that is the last straw, which I kind of found interesting (if their son had found 2 women who wanted to create a life with him would have have been so outraged?) though it does make for more complex christmas dinners... Didn't love it, may not reread it, Owen's written better

This is a book about 3 emergency works and the romance and problems they face. I love the twist and turns and the characters. I wish there was a second book as I would love to know more about the new neighbor that shows up near the end of the book. The book is very well written and is a good read.

911 is a great read. Chris Owen writes great characters & makes them come alive. You are rooting for these 3 special men to find the happiness that is within their reach. There are obstacles to be overcome. Personalities to mesh. I really loved this book.
