Purchased via Home Depot and to my surprise they now use local Ariens dealerships who do the assembly and initial set up with delivery. A knowledgable and seasoned guy dropped it off and offered a demo. I used the machine twice on two 6" occassions and was very, very happen. But then, we got the blizzard of 2013 and a few things happened. The machine starts like a dream, I've not needed to use the electric start as it turns over and fires immediately. After hogging out through 3' of snow, the drive wheels would not turn. I was REALLY unhappy that after only 4 hours of total use, the drive wheels stopped working. After some research (I was stuck home afterall, no plow trucks for 2 days) I decided to take a shot at fixing it. I find that the pully the engages the drive wheels is given tension with a heavy duty spring. That spring snapped! So I was able to bend it in order to finish the driveway and ordered up 2 more just in case!!

Pros: Great design, solid construction, lots of power (until you get 3' of snow), throws snow farther than imaginable

Cons: There is simply no reason a brand new snowblower should require a $5 spring that snaps and renders the machine useless.

In the end, would I recommend this machine, yes absolutely. Am I disappointed I ended up getting stuck with a bum part during a terrible storm, ABSOLUTELY. This is my 6th Ariens product and I will continue to support them but I am certainly going to have this machine on a short leash.

As an aside- GET DRIFT CUTTERS... I wish I had gotten these!!

This machine replaced 30+ year-old Ariens 8-hp machine I got as a hand-me-down.

I bought this model new from my local power equipment dealer, who also serviced my old machine.

This is my second winter with this machine, and I just continue to get more annoyed at the poor build quality and the lack of robust design. At end of *last* winter, I caught a rock and broke a shear pin as I was finishing up the driveway. This is not an issue for me, I'm used to it, keep plenty of extras on hand, and can change them out in about 5 minutes. On the next warm weekend, I cleaned up the machine, replaced the shear pin, and put it away for the season.

Jump forward to today. I put in fresh gas, start it up (the engine starts and runs reliably, that's why I give it more than one star). As soon as I engage the auger, I hear a clunking sound with each turn. Examined the auger. The. Auger. Was. Bent. The leading edge of the auger was bent out about twenty degrees, and was scraping against the housing and banging over a round-head bolt that fastens the scraper bar on the bottom.

I was able to straighten the auger by placing the claw end of a hammer over the bent edge and applying a little pressure. The steel (if it actually *is* steel) is so thin, it can be bent *by hand*. That fixed the "clunk", but now I have to rust-proof and repaint the scraped housing.

Other cons:

The joystick that turns the snow chute is sloppy. The chute cannot be made to stay hard over to the right; it tends to slop back a few degrees. My old machine had a worm gear and crank to steer the chute, which I could position precisely and would never move on its own.

I've had the plastic slide-on covers for the auger and drive slide off in my gloved hand.

Verified Purchase
Received the Ariens Deluxe Platinum ST24DLE Snow Blower from the FedEx Ground shipper intact. The driver did not have any way to easily to lower from the back end of the semi-tractor trailer truck to the ground. Fortunately I was home and was able to help him get it to ground without dropping the box.

Put the unit together and it was missing the bolts to hold on the chute. A quick call to the seller scored me the two missing bolts via FedEx overnight. Completed assembly without any more problems.

The unit works great. Had a 7" snow and felt that the snowblower wasn't even working at all. I am waiting for a good 2' to see how it really does. The heated grips are awesome. I can't believe I waited till now to purchase this machine. I would recommend buying the Ariens to anyone.

I should probably give this a 1 star review, since the rubber friction wheel got torn apart after only using the brand new thing a few times. However the repair is easy, part is 15 bucks on amazon, and anyone with a 3/8" wrench, torx set and a pliers can replace it. I wanted to buy a snow blower made in the USA just in case I needed to find parts down the road, didn't figure that first road stop was so soon.

Otherwise a good product. Starts easy. Main advantage over the chinese/sears brands is the 14" impeller, it throws the snow really far! If I am not fighting the wind it will throw the snow all the way across my double wide driveway.

I have a 2 year old model that has the same engine but is 27" wide. got it used for $750. it went threw 20" of snow with barely any effort. it threw it 40-50 feet away. love this thing. I don't have heated handgrips on mine, might be nice since it was 5 degrees out. to bad they won't ship this to Alaska.
