Broil-King Monarch 20, May 9, 2011
This review is from: Broil King 934654 Monarch 20 Liquid Propane Gas Grill, Stainless/Black (Lawn & Patio)
Our family did a lot of Web searching, review reading, and looking at grills in person before deciding to spend the $350 or so for the Broil-King Monarch 20. We couldn't be happier with the order through Amazon or with the grill itself.
Previous reviews indicated that Onward produces grills that are made from high-quality materials and that the customer service response is top notch.
1) The order: We live in West Virginia and were unable to find any dealers that carried Broil King. Once we decided to go with this brand, availablity and price made Amazon the choice. We received shipping notification from Amazon 4 or 5 days after placing the order. The next day we got a call from the freight company and they arranged to deliver the grill THAT DAY. Especially given that the item qualified for free shipping, we thought the promptness of the delivery was remarkable. The grill arrived in perfect condition.
2) The grill: My wife and adult son assembled the entire grill in about two hours. The instructions were visual pictures, not written, but all was obvious. There is a parts list included. The Monarch 20 is made of high-quality materials. The key internal parts (burners, heat spreader) are stainless steel. The grill grids (two side-by-side) are heavy cast. There is a clever, flip-over feature that allows (or not) drippings to be channeled away from the flames if desired. The "oven" is heavy-gauge material; the fold-down side shelves are heavy plastic and utilitarian. The Monarch allows for one or both cooking "sides" to be used as desired. The ignitors work perfectly and light instantly.
3) In practice: We have grilled chicken pieces, burgers, tube steaks, and vegetables so far. The Monarch is easy to use, control, and regulate. All of the food mentioned came out beautifully.
We gave the Broil-King a five star rating without question. It seemed a bit pricey to us old-timers, but we are pretty sure we will not be buying another grill for many years.

This review is from: Broil King 934654 Monarch 20 Liquid Propane Gas Grill, Stainless/Black (Lawn & Patio)
This is a replacement for a ten year old BBQ from the same manufacturer which was used extensively. It is very well made and does an exellent job of cooking. I highly recommend it.

Great Cooking... Flimsy Base, May 20, 2011
This review is from: Broil King 934654 Monarch 20 Liquid Propane Gas Grill, Stainless/Black (Lawn & Patio)
This is a great grill if you are looking to spend your money on getting a grill with quality components that result in a hot evenly heated grilling surface. The valves, burner, Flav-R-Wave, and cast iron grids are all very good quality. The grill heats to over 600 degrees in around 10 minutes. The heat also is very even across the entire surface. This makes searing food fast and easy. For simply no frills grilling (which is what most of use do anyway) this grill does great.
The none cooking elements of this grill is where your money doesn't go. The sheetmetal base is flimsy, which makes the grill flex and wiggle especially when cleaning the grids with a steel wire brush. The fold down sides might be a useful feature for some users, but they are also somewhat flimsy. When you push on them to roll the grill the plastic pin that keeps them from rotating will fall out and the sides will flex.
Overall I'm happy with my purchase as my primary concern was getting a grill with quality cooking components for the lowest price. If you are looking for the same, but willing to spend fifty or so more dollars then the Crown series might be worth looking at. This series shares all of the same cooking elements, but the base is of higher quality construction and the cooking area is increased slightly.
